#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this “deeply engrossing thriller” (The Washington Post) from the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

The Racketeer is guilty of only one thing: keeping us engaged until the very last page.”—USA Today

In the history of the United States, only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five. His body is found in his remote lakeside cabin. There is no sign of forced entry or struggle. Just two dead bodies: Judge Fawcett and his young secretary. And one large, state-of-the-art, extremely secure safe, opened and emptied.

One man, a former attorney, knows who killed Judge Fawcett, and why. But that man, Malcolm Bannister, is currently residing in the Federal Prison Camp near Frostburg, Maryland. Though serving time, Malcolm has an ace up his sleeve. He has information the FBI would love to know. Malcolm would love to tell them. But everything has a price—and the man known as the Racketeer wasn’t born yesterday.

Would you listen to The Racketeer again? Why?

Most definitely! I often read Grisham's books more than once and having this one as an audible book makes it even more appealing. This one was done so well...very entertaining.

What other book might you compare The Racketeer to and why?

Any other Grisham novel! I could compare it to a Robert Ludlum novel,

due to the many twists and turns in the book. One did not know the outcome until the very last page I also enjoyed this audio book as much as The Help. Both performances by the readers were superb.

Which character – as performed by J.D. Jackson – was your favorite?

The lead character. Malcolm Bannister.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made both my husband and I cry due to much laughter! It certainly made a long car trip more enjoyable.

Any additional comments?

Loved the novel and audio version equally. Jackson did a marvelous job portraying all of the characters on spot.

Riveting!

What did you love best about The Racketeer?

I typically enjoy John Grisham books, but sometimes they all run together, and I can't remember specific plot lines or characters. This book, while still definitely a Grisham novel, felt different than his most recent ones. The main character IS a lawyer, but he is in prison, so it's a more unique approach in that way.

Have you listened to any of J.D. Jackson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I grew to like the narrator. At first, he was a little too slow for me. I like more fast paced narrators, usually. But, his style and speed really fit the novel well.

Any additional comments?

If you enjoy Grisham books, this one is excellent. It kept me interested, and I found myself anxious to get back into the car to find out what happened. I love Grisham's 3rd person omniscient narration; I feel like it keeps the reader in more suspense.

A different storyline from other Grisham novels.
