Publisher's summary

Loyalties are tested and nations clash in this fresh epic fantasy bursting with adventure, intrigue, ambition, and deadly magic - perfect for fans of Robin Hobb and Karen Miller.

Ryxander, Warden of Gloamingard, has failed. Unsealed by her blood, the Door hidden within the black tower has opened. Now, for the first time since the age of the Graces, demons walk the world.

As tensions grow between nations, all eyes - and daggers - are set on Morgrain, which has fallen under the Demon of Discord’s control. When an artifact with the power to wipe out all life in a domain is stolen, Ryx will do whatever it takes to save her home from destruction. But success may demand a larger sacrifice from Ryx than she could have imagined.

Wonderful!!!

I really enjoyed both of the books in this series. Senn is a fantastic voice actor, I even teared up at one of the really heartbreaking moments. The only issue I had was that the sound cut off early at the end of Chapter 22! I don't think it affected much, but I was certainly confused.

Amazing

I loved this sequel. Great development for the whole Rookery, as well as Severin and Whisper.

A few great twists, and a feeling of an end, though a definite cliffhanger. some questions were answered, more were left until later as well as a few new ones to think about until the next installment.

would definitely recommend

Where's book 3!?

I really enjoyed this sequel! I think it was actually better than the first book. The person who read the audio book did an excellent job of giving each character a unique voice. I could always tell who was speaking even if I missed their name. I also really enjoyed getting to find out more about each character and seeing how the events of the book changed them, one way or the other, and how far they've come since we met them in book 1. And the demons and their powers were all very intriguing. Several major revelations were had by the end of the book that had me at the edge of my seat not knowing what would happen next. Now there needs to be a book 3 because that ending was intense!

Madness!?

I don't think I will ever not like a book by Melissa Caruso. I absolutely loved her Swords and Fire trilogy and her Rooks and Ruin trilogy is cropping up to be just as good!

Ryx is an incredible protagonist to follow and I love how Caruso humanizes some of the demons. According to everything anyone's ever known, demons are the embodiment of evil, but she has you feeling sorry for them and hoping that they'll grow.

I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment.

ugh. don't buy. Could have been better with a really good editor. Highly repetitive dialogue and plot/character "changes." How many times in not one but two books must you say "it's all my fault, I have to help, I should have known, he was my friend, ECT.." again and again. And then the good guy is now bad guy and the bad guy is now the good guy and back again in a totally predictable way. Repetitive. Bought the first book and thought the author had possibility but the second book just continued same dialog same cliche character "changes." Resent spending my credits on this series but hey sometimes you do find a good writer.
