Publisher's Summary

There will be a battle, and you will need to protect your heart.

Kjell of Jeru had always known who he was. He'd never envied his brother or wanted to be king. He was the bastard son of the late King Zoltev and a servant girl, and the ignominy of his birth had never bothered him.

But there is more to a man than his parentage. More to a man than his blade, his size, or his skills, and all that Kjell once knew has shifted and changed. He is no longer simply Kjell of Jeru, a warrior defending the crown. Now he is a healer, one of the Gifted, and a man completely at odds with his power.

Called upon to rid the country of the last vestiges of the Volgar, Kjell stumbles upon a woman who has troubling glimpses of the future and no memory of the past. Armed with his unwanted gift and haunted by regret, Kjell becomes a reluctant savior, beset by old enemies and new expectations. With the woman by his side, Kjell embarks upon a journey where the greatest test may be finding the man she believes him to be.

My fav author + a new fav narrator = gold

Amy Harmon once again drew me in with beautiful, lyrical language and a captivating story that touched my soul and filled my well. I liked Kjell's story even more than the first book in the series, which I wasn't expecting. The narrator had perfect delivery and is someone I'll definitely be looking up to discover other books.

Loving this series

I was doubtful about reading this series, but something pulled me to try the first book, and I feel in love. I love the story of the four who began the world, I live the gifts, I love the stories within this particular story, and most of all, I love the people in these stories perfectly not perfect. Fabulous narrator too!!

Love the series!

I liked the first book in the series better than this one, but this one was still worth the listen. The story line was very imaginative and engaging. The only problem was the narrator. The did a good job but his voice is a calming and melodious that I fell asleep a number of times. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this one for a road trip for that reason. The story isn’t boring and the narrator does a good job - it’s more of a tonal and pace that I find so relaxing and comforting.

Enjoyed!

Loved Steve West . The story itself was beautiful. Gut wrenching and poetic. Ms Harmon's books are true poetry in motion.

Thank the narrator!

Loved the voice. Loved the delivery. He made this story all the more likeable because of his delivery. He gave his character life!

As to the story: it’s not as exciting and wonderful as the 1st one. I guess it’s more to quench your cravings to continue the storyline of The Bird and The Sword and probably find more depth about kjell but thank the narrator this book became exciting!
