Because the King of Hell is back, and now he has a new bride to keep hidden from the world below...a world that shows no mercy, right along with one of their rulers. Foresight is a great thing. It would have come in handy. Like when I decided to try and steal from an angry Vampire King. Nope, probably wasn’t one of my better ideas. So, there were many things I could have done differently. I could have gone on a cruise and forgotten about stealing a killer box from a Vampire King. I could have shaved my head and become a Tibetan monk. I could have also lost my virginity to some nice Texas cowboy who wanted to introduce me to his mother. But instead, I went to Germany and ended up fighting Mercenaries. I also fell in love with a Vampire King who claimed me as his. And now I’m in the river and all because I decided not to just stay home and do my laundry. No, instead...I shot a pilot.

It’s been seven years. Seven long years since that cold and cruel Vampire King, Lucius, broke her heart. Her naive little heart destroyed after one painful night when she sneaked in to his Gothic nightclub, Transfusion. Seven years since he humiliated her, casting her aside and telling her just what he thought about her little obsession with him. Then he saved her life. Well, now he is back, and this time he is out for blood, and all she can hope for is that it isn’t hers that’s on the menu.

Afterlife, just a place for an unhappy king to call home or soon to become a beacon of hope when a new waitress falls at his feet? The Gothic nightclub is about to welcome a new guest, and this time it is one he can’t control. As for Dominic Draven, the king of all supernatural life, handling just one little mortal named Keira should be no problem for him…right? Wrong! As she is his chosen one, she is not meant to be ruled by a domineering, overbearing, arrogant boss who is determined to keep her at arm’s length.

Once again, the teens were not only faced with a ton of unanswered questions after what had happened down in that cell of death, but on top of all that, they had classes to pass! But this wasn’t the only thing that faced this misfit bunch of teenagers, because they had new powers to control and inner demons to face, a blood oath to figure out, a mechanical bad ass named Gruen out for blood...and oh yeah, a Hell’s Ring to fight. Which meant that their first year at the Afterlife school was going to be interesting all right. In fact, it might just end up being...Hell on Earth!

Still wish Dom's voice were deeper
What would you do for love? Well, Keira finally finds her backbone as she tries to save her love. But is it all smoke, mirrors and more lies and deception? More wonderful, interesting , involved characters are introduced. But the ending broke my heart. The author wrenches emotions from the characters and reader alike. Please! say it ain't so!

I want to know what comes next but......
As the series progresses I find Keira's almost inability to call Dominic, her significant other by his given, and quite frankly lovely, first name and stubbornly insisting on calling him Draven, annoying! Especially when there are multiple memebers of his family who obviously share this same surname.
The phrase "I bit my lip" is making me want to punch holes in walls and I think I'm close to detatching a retina with all the eye rolling I'm doing listening to her antics. I also find her extreme levels of embarrassment and shame at absolutely anything and everything a less than endearing trait.
So I'm praying for 100% less lip biting or along with all these other annoyances I don't think I can continue with the series.

This was already my favourite book of the series so had to be the first one I got with my free trial. Well it has me hooked on getting all of the books on audio! I laughed, cried and found new things about the book that I never knew were in there. The narrator is perfect.
