The redemption arc!
he redemption arc!! We first met Princess Ava in The Princess Companion and she was “the bad guy.” I did not like her at all and was done with her. Melanie Cellier took a very unlikable character and made me connect with her in so many ways, that I was wondering if she was based on me in some ways. Ava grew so much as a person, faced the bad parts of herself, made deliberate changes, and became a queen that everyone loved. And Hans was just so great the entire time. I could not recommend this book enough.

barely red riding hood
I really liked this book. If I had anything bad to say, it would be that it didn't really remind me of Red Riding Hood. The other tales are closer to the originals while adding some extra plot elements and making the characters actually interesting. This book strayed a bit further. However, it was a great tale. I was skeptical whether I'd enjoy reading about a princess who was a villain from another book, but Ava had a strong inner voice with her worries about appearing weak and losing control. She was likable in her struggles despite initial shortcomings (and rudeness!).

This was a good redemption story. The cover threw me for a bit and I thought that it was one of those time when the cover designer wasn't given an accurate description, but no, it works :)

Even better than book one!
Even better than book one. Enjoyed the twist on the wolf being the one within one’s self. Great adventure in saving the kingdom, making true friends and learning about love along the way. Could have used a few more romance building scenes between the couple, but loved the strong characters who were perfect for each other. Also, although a bit predictable, I enjoyed the trials for the monarchy and the ending.
The narrator is growing on me. I didn’t care for Ava’s voice, even in book one, but the narrator does a good job overall. Really enjoyable!
