Nothing is so strange as the unfamiliar

I enjoy getting fairy tales on audible and podcasts to share with my kids. These stories are almost always best when spoken aloud rather than in print or turned into movies. It's just in their DNA. I was unfamiliar with The Prince and the Princess in the Forest so I decided to hear it myself before introducing it to them.

Holy cow.

I knew intellectually that all of the familiar fairy tales were pretty wacky but they don't FEEL odd because they're all so well worn and familiar. Even though primarily composed of common fairy tale tropes, The Prince and the Princess in the Forest feels so much more bizarre due to lack of familiarity. I wonder if this is what all of the tales sound like to my kids.

It's been a very long time since I've experienced a new fairy tale and this one will have me looking at them in a new light now.

Narration very sing song.

Story not charming, didn't finish because of distractingly bad narration. Seemed pointless. I plan to return it.

An adventure that makes a great bedtime story!

Another great tale by Clive Johnson. I liked the way Clive personified good and evil in The Prince and the Princess in the Forest. This story is a great way to reinforce in the little ones the importance of bravery, generosity, forgiveness and kindness. Clive Johnson’s soothing voice also makes this tale a wonderful bedtime story.

Fresh New Fairy Tale

The Prince and the Princess in the Forest is a new fairy tale for me. It tells the story of a young prince and his mother who meet a robber and a princess in the woods. There is a lot to unpack in this little story! It has so many twists and turns, familiar themes and new adventures. Unlike many fairy tales, it doesn't have a moral at the end, although I'm sure parents can supply their own as they listen with their kids.

The narration was well done as usual, soothing and easy to listen to. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Good but Just Different

I listened with my three kids (13,11 &9) and we all enjoyed this one but, it was so different and a story that felt and was very unfamiliar. My daughter (11) said it had more plot twists then the normal fairy tales and felt that little kids wouldn't understand it so it was geared for a slightly older child. Clive did a great job with the narration and telling of the story making it a fun listen.

Wonderful Fairy Tale Adventure

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Clive Johnson adapt a fairy tale I was not familiar with. Its a fun adventure with tragedy, magical objects, monsters, riddles, romance, betrayals and more. I was surprised how much was packed into a half hour story! They should adapt this tale into a full length movie.

Clive does a great job on the narration as well. His accent and delivery make this the perfect bedtime story for all ages. He even does additional voices in this one. You won't be disappointed!

Clive Johnson never dissappoints

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. My kids and I have listened to other Clive Johnson's stories and we've loved them all. The prince and the princess in the forest is not the exception. I would totally recommend parents to get their books and use them constantly with their kids instead of Ipads and videogames. Thank you, Clive for your efforts to strengthen kids imagination and creativity with your books

Something for the whole family

I am always pleased when I listen to a book that I can listen to with my kids in the same room, or in the car with them. To often a book that you think should be family friendly drops a curse word in, usually unexpectedly and suddenly too. This book does not, at all.

I thought the narration was excellent, and while I was confused with some of the main characters decisions overall I did enjoy this book. I don't like to spoil a story (mainly because I hate it when people spoil it for me) but if you are looking for a good fairy tale and and conscious of language, this is a great book for you.

Food for thought

These old stories have so many layers and applications to be drawn from them. That is why that are timeless classics. This was no different. When are they going to make this story into a movie already!? I really enjoyed the story, the writing and the narration.

a brand new insight into a traditional tale

firstly i would like to say that before listening to this book I had never heard of this particular fairy tale. I grew up with all the classic childhood stories bring read to me night after night until I knew them off by heart and word for word to this day.
It was so refreshing to hear something completely new to me and it was a breath of fresh air from the other overtold tales.
The book is wonderfully narrated and is completely engaging to listeners of any age. In my opinion it is just the right length to tell a good story but not lose the interest of younger listeners with shorter attention spans. It is the sort of traditional and whimsical story that takes you back to your carefree childhood and I loved every minute . In this day and age I think there is a need to keep retelling stories like this to keep the magic alive. Highly recommended
