Story
It’s November 3, 2020, and Emma McMasters has just been elected the 46th president of the United States. She’s facing a divided Congress and nation, allies that no longer trust America, enemies that have been emboldened, and the legacy of destruction left by the last administration. She must rebuild and reestablish trust in government, in the media, and in the electoral system, all the while carrying the mantle of first female president, and along with it, the hopes and dreams of millions of women and little girls who need her to prove that a woman can get the job done.

Ambitious ice queen and corporate lawyer Felicity Simmons has spent her life focused on one thing: scuttling up the career ladder. She's achingly close to taking charge of a media empire for her boss when she's sent to investigate a South Bronx charity that helps homeless people's pets. Has the charity made off with her boss's generous donation? And, who on earth is that gorgeous soft-butch veterinarian who looks as if she could toss a Shetland pony over one shoulder? Not that Felicity has any interest in some opinionated Amazon or her adorable fleabag of a dog.

It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Falling stars are supposed to be a lucky sign, but not for Austen. Her new job as a secretary in an international games company isn't off to a good start. Her first assignment - decorating the Christmas tree in the lobby - results in a trip to the ER after Dee, the company's second-in-command, gets hit by the star-shaped tree topper. Dee blames her instant attraction to Austen on her head wound, not the magic of the falling star. She's determined not to act on it, especially since Austen has no idea that Dee is practically her boss.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Intriguing and interesting st
For a 2010 copyright there were some head scratching things like using the words "word processors " instead of computer or laptop, and a lack of cell phones and texting, but the presence of answering machines etc. I don't know why but I kept thinking this story must have sat on the shelf for a while.
I enjoyed the story, and a pretty rich background that was provided for each of the characters. There was enough adventure, but trail of every day life in an interesting way, and drama. I do at some point think I will get my fill of the knight in shining armor and rescued princess but perhaps book two will even things up a bit.
I am looking forward to more of these women

good at first then got boring
Would you try another book from Lynn Ames and/or Emily Beresford?
I would hoping book 2 is better. I have to think if I would give it a chance.
Would you ever listen to anything by Lynn Ames again?
So far no. Have to think about it.
Which character – as performed by Emily Beresford – was your favorite?
The dog. Jay cried to much and I thought Kate was stronger then she went weak, so the dog.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
Nothing to say.

If you enjoy hiding in the closet, this is for you
The story of these two people might have been titillating in the 1930's but not in the 1980's. I lived through the 1980's, and we didn't run and hide then. This book should have been used for a Shirley Temple movie.

In what world would anything like this happen?
Take superwoman. Remove her super powers. Give her a U-haul. That's one of the main characters.
Take a normal human. Give her the traumatic hero upbringing, and make her lucky right after disasters happen. That's the other main character.
Also make it feel like it's written by an idyllic child, but it's actually a grown adult.
And spend a good quarter of the time constantly dreading what could go wrong.

I don’t know how I listened all the way through. Long before the end it felt like a chore I was determined to finish rather than an enjoyable experience. Narrator did good voices for the characters. That’s the only nice thing I have to say. She was terrible. Writing was insufferable. Don’t waste your time!

Wish this Book had a different narrator
I absolutely LOVE this Book. I've read it and wanted to listen to the audio version since I commute to work. Lynn Ames is a favorite author of mine. The only thing that kept me from finishing the audio version is the narrator. I'm sure it was meant well but, the way she quotes the characters is very uppity (for lack of a better word) or over the top. I'm so happy I've read this book so that I know how amazing this story is. Lynn Ames will always be a favorite!

Everything I want in a story
The fact that, upon completing this audio book, I immediately wanted to buy extra credits so I can listen to the next instalments immediately, says everything you need to know.
The character development is rich, the story is broad and deep, and the narration drew me into the lives of the characters.
I enjoyed everything about the experience of this audio book. Very much looking forward to following the adventures of these interesting lives in the subsequent books.
One of the joys of finding an author later in their writing career is that I can binge listen to the entire library. Way better than Netflix.

Hilarious, but for all the wrong reasons
Please don't get me wrong. I love a good old cheesy lesbian romance, I have read and listened to so many of them I'm surprised I haven't come across this one before.
I gave it 2 stars because I don't want to be too scathing, as a background listen its fine. However, I think the author needs to do some work with a dialogue coach. Nobody has conversations like the characters in this book, they are cringworthy. Listening whilst walking the dog must had made me seem like a crazy person as laughing out loud on your own walking down the street wearing earbuds can get you a second look or two.
I'm going to leave it here, I could go on, but honestly this author has written several books, which is several more than me, and good luck to her if others are reading/listening and enjoying, she did a great job, but on this occasion it just wasn't for me.

Braindead main character
Okay so this is gonna be a spoiler so
At some point the MC Kate gets outed as a lesbian, she gets the chance to deny this but she doesn't because she "Doesn't want to lie about the person she loves." So then of course she proceeds to drive said love away and runs away herself.so that Jay's career won't be damaged. She refuses to tell her where she is or contact her. Then when Jay gets mad because of an article talking about Kate's ex GFs and she assumes she's been abandoned suddenly it's all Jay's fault? How the fuck does that make sense. Absolute garbage.

book is better than the audio
What did you like best about The Price of Fame? What did you like least?
the book is great and a good story but the narration is awful the voice to too weak for a strong character like Kate
What other book might you compare The Price of Fame to, and why?
The Devil Unleashed Ali Vali a great book
What didn’t you like about Emily Beresford’s performance?
the voice is too weak its hard to think that Kate is a anchor on tv and supposed to be this person who controls a room and Jay just sounds like a little girl
If this book were a film would you go see it?
probably
Any additional comments?

Soooo cheesy
I’ve never given up on an audiobook before. I managed 6 hours, but I just couldn’t go on!
The narration awful. It’s is so cheesy and the conversations the main characters have are so cringey, no one talks like that.
I thought it started pretty well and the bits looking back at the past were ok, but as soon as they got together and it was all lovey dovey it was bloody awful.

'Love'
I liked the overall story and the characters. Hated how often the word 'love' was used as an endearment - I'm a dour Scot. Will read the book instead of listening next time because I do want to know what happens next.
