I liked this

I have seen quite many negative reviews, but this is not a bad story. Maybe it is due to myself being a writer and translator? Figuring out the end was not too difficult but how we would end up there was an interesting journey.

Push past the slow start for a deeply engaging story

Unexpected twists, but especially enjoyed the questions the story raises about plot ownership and is there a responsibility to tell a story if it comes to you?

Predictable

This is a decent, well told story. However, the plot is predictable, the characters unlikeable, and the unfolding of the supposedly perfect plot tedious. Not bad, but I can’t understand the acclaim.

Good but not Great.

Very slow to begin and didn't care for the narration. the tone was very monotonous. Story eventually got better but it was predictable.

Entertaining but predictable

Great story, but the ending was pretty obvious about halfway through the book. Worth a listen.

Very interesting "plot"!

I found this novel very compelling. The twists and turns kept me wondering what would happen next. I highly recommend this book. I recommended it to my book club and they loved it too!

Awful Narration

Is Audible using AI to read texts now? The narration was horrid. I like Jean Korelitz’s books, but this plot could be figured out half way through the book. Ending was not satisfying at all. You get the feeling that the book was written with the intent of turning it into a movie, with its over the top predictable plot. A better ending would have been for his retelling of the story to actually happen.

Need to get past narrator….he was painful

Within minutes it was clear the narrator was awful. However, once you get about half way thru book the story is intriguing and keeps you going.

Entertaining enough

As noted by many reviewers, the beginning was slow and seemed pretty self-indulgent. But once it got going, it was a good listen. Speaking of listening, bump your playback speed up to 1.20x - trust me! It makes a monotone and monotonous narrator almost tolerable.

I liked the plot of the book within the book more than the book itself which confuses me. I also guessed the twist.
