Worst book I've read this year

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the writing was more realistic, or if I even could figure out or CARE what the characters were doing next.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Elisabeth Rodgers?

The narrator did as good a job as could be expected with such crappy material.

What character would you cut from The Perfect Witness?

All of them. Especially the main two characters, Allie and Mendac. Ugh!

Any additional comments?

I normally love Iris Johansen, but she was off her game on this book. It truly sucked. I honestly can not find one redeeming quality to this book, sorry.

i paid for it so by gum, i listened to the whole thing

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A better, less predictable plot. Characters with depth-not the stereotypical ones in this s t ory. A reader who didn't do the fake lower voice for the guy would have been nice. Also, it starts with a grown man and a 16 yr old girl with sexual overtones-creeeepy

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not a Johansen book

How could the performance have been better?

Someone who could give a male inflection without the lower voice deal

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

They didn't kill the tiger??

Any additional comments?

She sure got over the mind reading thing. It w a s almost like she didn't have a power after all. Kind of confusing

No better than Mills and Boon

What disappointed you about The Perfect Witness?

I thought it would be a mystery or thriller, it was neither just a highly predictable, Mills and Boon type paranormal plod.

Would you ever listen to anything by Iris Johansen again?

Never

How could the performance have been better?

Something unpredictable, something not totally obvious from the very beginning

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I think every romantic cliché ever invented could be found in this book.

What an Awful Book

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Better dialogue

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm too disappointed to decide right now

What didn’t you like about Elisabeth Rodgers’s performance?

Performance could have been less like reading it

What character would you cut from The Perfect Witness?

Mandak. I would either cut him or make him less like a robot

Any additional comments?

Don't bother with this book

Didn't enjoy

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Didn't connect with the characters. Felt like the story began in the middle of something and never went back and explained the backstory enough.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. couldn't wait for it to be over but had to finish it because that's what I do.

WARNING: Misleading Advertisiing

What would have made The Perfect Witness better?

If the story was actually what was advertised.

Has The Perfect Witness turned you off from other books in this genre?

If I had know what genre this story really was I would never have purchased it.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not for me

Any additional comments?

The description of this book is VERY misleading. It talks about the 'witness's' photographic memory and witness protection. That sounded intriguing to me. However, within a few minutes of the story beginning you learn that the witness actually has what can only be described as mystical / clairvoyant powers. That is of no interest to me. I really feel I was mislead by how Audible described this story.

impossible dialog

I think the story idea is a good one, but the author cannot make the dialog believable. The reader is good. I made it through 12 out of 16 chapters, but can't stand the way the dialog goes, and the story begins to deteriorate as the book progresses.

Repetitive-Same Dialogue over and over

Would you ever listen to anything by Iris Johansen again?

I would be very careful from now on.

What about Elisabeth Rodgers’s performance did you like?

Her performance is fine.

What character would you cut from The Perfect Witness?

Unfortunately the MAIN character!

Any additional comments?

Same conversations happen over and over but in different settings. Woods, Cabin, House, Friend's house. Ridiculous waste of time and money.

Please let it be over soon!

She has this great ability to see people's memories and hasn't used it once. This is stupid.

Good not great

Interesting but a little far fetched, plus not super "end of your seat." Narration is excellent though. This would be on my maybe list.

Nothing much to it

No surprises, boring even.
Had good potential though, something's missing there, as if it's still raw, a draft.

Good opening and ending - rest predictable

Would you try another book written by Iris Johansen or narrated by Elisabeth Rodgers?

Probably not by the author. It was a bit long winded and self indulgent.

Has The Perfect Witness put you off other books in this genre?

No, but it was like a poor man's version of x-men.

Did Elisabeth Rodgers do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Yes. I found the main character irritating, but I don't think that was her the reader's fault.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Perfect Witness?

Most of the middle.
