Nice but…

I enjoyed the book but could have done without all the designer names and intricate descriptions of outfits. I don’t understand why I needed to know who made a bracelet or shoes it doesn’t matter in the story.

A charming series

This was a charming series that I enjoyed listening to. The characters are likable and the story flows well.

Like a listening to a movie

Love that this story showcased wounded women bonding through their hurt as opposed to the hurt causing them to turn on each other.

Innuendo

I very much liked the attention to character development and the inclusion of diversity with references to skin color; musicians; artists; gender identity; and social class differences.

It’s a winner!

I really enjoyed this book and the narrator was responsible for a great part of that. Kate is a new author for me and I think she may become one of my favorites. She makes her characters come alive and that really makes or breaks a book. There was only one problem for me and that was the switch between characters without my realizing it. Very confusing.

Enjoyable story

Not my usual genre but it was an enjoyable story with a happy ending. Would make a nice listen when you’re traveling - not too serious and you can tune in and out without losing much of the plot.

Very different feel compared to The Perfect Retreat

This story definitely should have come with a couple of trigger warnings…

The first trigger is of rape. Enough said.

The second is of a deranged ex-partner basically kidnapping, tying up, then attempting to shoot up their victim with heroin. Oh yes, also putting out a cigarette on her body while she’s tied up.
There are a couple of other things that could be triggers for some, but those are the big ones.

Ok, so one thing I thought was a little strange was that the author made this book as part of a series with the previous book, but the stories don’t seem to be related to me. Plus, I guess the main issue I have with them being linked as a series is that the 2 stories have a very different feel to each other. This one has a lot more of a… I don’t know whether to call it a spiritual or a supernatural vibe, but there is a strong base of that to this story. I actually really enjoyed that aspect of it. But since it’s a strong theme with all three women, not just one, I thought it should be mentioned.

Overall I’d say it’s a solid 4 stars. For story & narration both.

Good story but too much sex

Very explicit language and sex around every corner. But the story itself is very good. I always like a good epilogue that wraps it up in the end. Good character development and great narration.
