Publisher's Summary

In the spring of 1685, Lord Hugo Everly, ardent supporter of the Protestant upstart the Duke of Monmouth, vanishes without a trace just before the Monmouth Rebellion, leaving future generations forever baffled as to what might have become of him.

In 2013, while visiting Everly Manor as part of her job as a location scout for a film production company, Neve Ashley stumbles onto a secret passage that leads her into the 17th century and straight into the path of the ill-fated lord. Neve is able to return safely to her own time, but she can't forget the man she met or the fate that's about to befall him. Against her better judgment, Neve decides to go back and warn Hugo of impending danger, not realizing that she's walking into danger herself, for history is never straightforward, and people's motives not always what they appear to be. Taken hostage by the very man she was trying to save, Neve is trapped in the 17th century, her fate now intertwined with that of her captor, and the future something that neither one of them could have envisioned.

interesting time travel

Good story, held my interest. Not my favorite narrator. Main character sounded haughty and superior, not someone I could warm up to and feel for. I found myself repeating every line in my head to soften up voice. i suspect I would be very eager to start the next book in the series if the quality of the narration matched the quality of the writing. I haven't checked yet, but if it is the same narrator I think I will have to pass.

Spoiler !

This book HAD NO ENDING. Really annoying trick to sell a sequel. Not appreciated, and I'll not buy the next one.

Unfulfilling Romance

The characters are good but they just wander about and few of the loose ends ever get resolved.

Nice but!!

This book was just ok to me. I was very disappointed with Neve Ashley. Maybe it's because I'd just finished read the medieval tale series by Lina J. Potter. Now I understand all the implications with time traveling especially from present to past....but if you didn't know she was from the future she acted pretty much no different that a lady of that time period ...maybe because she was English ..I have a feeling if it was an American woman it might of been more interesting lol. Nevertheless, I would recommend reading.

So Disappointed

I was thrilled to discover this series as part of the Escape (romance) package. I am so disappointed in the narrator; she sounds so overly fake. I just can't listen to it.

I really tried..

I tried to trudge through this book, but plot and character depth were still absent over half-way through. I couldn't finish this one.

Love at first chapter!

I fell in love with this book instantly. There are multiple novels out there about time travel and romance, but this one does stand apart. The authoress writes believable and relatable characters that you can't help but want to follow.

The narrator does a great job of portraying the characters and has a very pleasant voice.

If you are a fan of Outlander, this is a great read. I can't wait to listen to the next ones!

Slow start...but worth the wait!

It took a few chapters to really get into the story but then I was addicted...I couldn't turn it off! Great characters and quite a few surprises but ends in a cliffhanger...off to start the next book!

Animal Abuse in second book.

This book was ok but if you don't like hearing about innocent animals dying in gruesome ways, don't start the series.

Enjoyable story with very flawed characters

I have always liked Irina Shapiro's books. The time travel aspect was very interesting and the time after Charles the 2nd was a very tumultuous time. However, the main characters themselves were very confusing and made extremely poor decisions. The reason for Hugo supporting Monmouth's rebellion was beyond stupid! Max - what the ****! If the guy is in the 21st century, he can't claim your inheritance - freaking moron! But the one that drove me nuts was Neve. This is a modern woman, but like many of Irina Shapiro's modern women - her personality and actions are more suited for someone born in a past century not someone who grew up in the latter 20th century! So much has happened with the women's movements of the past century that women today tend to be much more independent. So many things about this character simply doesn't make sense. You find out someone has been withdrawing funds from your account and has caused said account to be overdrawn and you don't say anything to said asshat! You just stand there in horror, with your hands on your mouth because you can't scream when you witness something horrible about to happen - you just stand there! But don't worry folks, the man will save the day. I wanted to like her, but I just didn't believe that an orphan forced to pretty much take care of herself for most of her life, would be this wishywashy.

Good story, uneven narration

What made the experience of listening to The Passage the most enjoyable?

The story

What did you like best about this story?

Time travel

Would you listen to another book narrated by Eva Kaminsky?

Not if she puts on a cod English accent, unless she learns how to do it properly. Her acting is fine, but her pronunciation is painful.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Neither. It was entertaining.

Great story but very odd pronunciations <br />

The reader had a very strange accent - which is sometimes annoying - the story itself is good and an easy listen

Good story

Enjoyed the story but the person that read it ground my nerves, she was not English she tried to speak as the Queen does but pronounced words completely wrong, it made me laugh in the end.

very similar to Outlander on Amazon Prime

I have enjoyed the story so far and intend to follow it up with the next tale. however the narrator needs to be taught how to talk in the correct way. I appreciate she is attempting to depict the poshest of voices but means she incorrectly pronounces words and sounds very fake. it would be good if there could be a male and female narrator for the characters but I guess that makes it pricey.
