I’d recommend it

This was good, but I definitely didn’t enjoy it as much as I’d hoped to. I can understand some of the criticisms I’ve seen, though I’m not sure they’re entirely warranted.

As for the narration, I can understand the comments about McClain’s inflection, but I think that’s part of what I like from an audiobook. Whether he gets loud or quiet, it’s never terribly so.

Opposite of Garbage!!! LOL thanks Karen 🤗

Reading a review that implies non-traditional families and LGBTQ characters turned the book into propaganda and garbage= instant credit spent! It's not even graphic one bit! After reading it, I'm just happy there's an angry lady out there getting all incensed because people have the audacity to be themselves and be alive. It really made this awesome find even sweeter after the book slump I've been in for a while now.

The cliffhanger

I read some of the reviews and was really worried about not liking the story or the male narrator’s voice being awful. To my surprise, I really loved the world building and both narrators. It’s slow for sure, but pretty good if you like sci-fi/romance. My only problem is how far back the next book has been pushed. The fact the next book won’t be out until 2022 is killing me. The cliffhanger absolutely destroyed me and I need the next one now.

Needed to be 2-3 times longer

Top notches all around. I’ve become a huge fan of Amie Kaufman over the past few years. The only gripe I have with this book is that I wish it was at least 2-3 times longer so it could flesh out the world and characters more. But will see if they do that in the next books! That cliffhanger affected me way more than any other series

Beautiful

A city in the sky, who have forgotten completely about the people they left on a dying land, plus a coup in action & a Goddess who has no true magic of her own in power - it’s absolutely wonderful to immerse yourself in & it’s a great vacation via book. The characters are so well crafted that they feel like close friends I should be able to call up.

Definitely a fantasy series I am excited to see continue & hope it is optioned for an HBO or Netflix series sometime soon!

Oh. And one of the main characters is a CAT!

Spooner and Kaufman do it again!

Part of me wants to pull an Owen Wilson and simply say "wow." After all, that single word encapsulates how I feel now after just finishing this audiobook. It was incredible! Between the rich descriptions of the world, the depth of the characters, and a plot that was both complicated and easy to follow, this book has everything you could ever hope for in a story. I can't wait for the sequel!

decent YA story

I enjoyed it. the author's overuse of the word "gaze" grew quite old though. Not sure if I will continue with the second book though.

Enjoying the beginning of the series

Great story line, look forward to the next book. Narration did not hold my interest, didn’t seem to match the characters.
