Pretty Gruesome

Pretty well written but definitely a gruesome tale. Not something I care for. I am not fond of children being victimized violently.

Creepy gory perfect

Great story, great narrator.. kept me interested from the very beginning and that is no small feat.

Great ghost story, spooky!

If you could sum up The Other Child in three words, what would they be?

Spooky, creepy, outstanding!

What did you like best about this story?

I love ghost stories and haunted houses, so this was right up my alley. Creepy kid possessed by creepy ghost kid, with a mom possessed by creepy ghost mom? You bet!! Storyline is realistic and believable, at least as ghost stories go, so it's easy to lose yourself in this book. Just enough spook and creep to make it fun, but not give you nightmares. If you like a good ghost story with a bit of a spooky feeling to it, this one's for you too!

Any additional comments?

Only gripe I had was the narration of the children. I felt the childishness was overdone to the point of being a bit distracting - I don't expect 10-year-olds to sound like adults, but they shouldn't sound like petulant 4-year-olds either. Otherwise, it was very well done.

POORLU DONE BACK AND FORTH

Could not keep up with what is actually going on. We begin with one period of time, the 1800's. A mother dies and her child is abandoned and locked by accident )?) in the cellar. We go to modern day where a couple buys a near mansion with a child from a porevious "mariage" whose age fluctuates from nine to pre-teen to teen and whose personality is that of a nagging older child when things do not go her way. Finally, later in the storu, they take on a housekeeper who has a little dog who is continuously referred to as a yapper! The "child" hates the dog on sight and tries to retrain the dog on sight...continuing to scream "Bad dog" and yank the leash of a tiny animal she hardly knows. The original plot is nearly forgotten and the story moves, if we can call it moving, from whine to whine. Sorry, a waste of time.

Very different from other books this author has written. Disappointed and would not recommend this book.

No Suspense

Not a very good ghost story. The epilogue was the only chilling section. Everything was over explained and had no mystery.

Drivel.

Wanted to like it, but it’s drivel. Could have been a good story. But whining made it unbearable.
