Publisher's summary

From USA Today bestselling author Pippa Grant comes a fabulously sharp-witted romantic comedy about a socialite’s fall from elitist grace to backcountry purgatory - and her accidental tumble into love.

If the Upper East Side had an evil twin, it would be Tickled Pink, Wisconsin. This run-down, backwoods town isn’t worthy of the footprint of my Louboutins, never mind all of me.

But when my grandmother has a near-death experience and realizes we Lightlys can’t buy our way into heaven, she relocates the family to Tickled Pink to work on improving our souls. And that’s how I trade my heiress existence for gigantic bugs, dishwater coffee, and a cranky single dad named Teague Miller.

Teague spends his days fishing, raising his spunky teenager, and after an unfortunate incident involving cheese curds, living rent-free in my head. The one thing he and I can agree on is that I don’t belong here. He’s willing to help me escape - until the unexpected happens.

I kind of like him. I might even more than like him.

But am I ready to give up the life I adored for a man I love to hate?

“Grant brings both passion and wit to this love story, with genuine characters, a charming exploration of Phoebe’s growth, and a setup that will put readers in mind of Schitt’s Creek. This is sure to put a smile on any romance lover’s face.”Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Narration Trumps Story

This story didn’t blow me away and it’s certainly not my favorite book from Pippa Grant but it was pretty good. It kept my attention for the most part and I appreciated the level of character growth involved (as it was much needed). Narration is well done and enhances the storyline. One of the other reviewers mentioned something about the “Oprah” references. I will second that this did get annoying and the “oh my Oprah’s”, etc. became more frequent as the story went on. Further, I think gender identity issues are much more complex than they are presented here. And I believe some readers will take issue with some of the content, especially when it involves a teenager. Most of us read to escape and if an author is pushing a social or political agenda, even marginally, it will be frowned upon by some of your audience. I personally was happy this was a free “read and listen” and found it mostly entertaining. Not sure it’s credit worthy.

A thought...

I thought that I would try another Pippa Grant story and before I'm through chapter 4, I remembered why I have never finished one of her books. Why do I need to know what color of skin the characters in your books have? How about if we get to know the characters as the story progresses? Maybe some observation is made regarding the color of their skin...or not.

Too much s commentary on today's society

I hated giving the narrators a bad review as they were great but this book deserves a one star review. There's too much in the book that I consider more devisíve [SIC] behavior in today's world

It was ridiculous but entertaining.

The overuse of “Oh my Oprah!” ruined it for me. Just stop already. No one even uses OMG half as much.

Insulting and terrible

Why is it romance novels are either about lovable billionaire men or hateful, despicable billionaire women? This book pounds the theme of despicable upper east siders (NY), including the heroine. It’s a constant theme throughout, denigrating rich people. The hero even says the heroine wouldn’t be considered pretty if she wasnt rich. What?? I really hope this audiobook was included, I would hate to think I paid for it. Please save your money. Or pay for it because evidently disposable income (especially if you are female) makes you evil.

Hilarious, Heartfelt and Swoony Romance!

I absolutely adored everything about this hilarious, heartfelt, and swoony romance! Phoebe is a wealthy New York socialite who works hard to take over her family empire one day. When her grandmother has a near death experience, she decides her family is in need of an intervention. So she forces them to live in the quirky, small town of Tickled Pink, Wisconsin, so they will learn to become better people. She has many rules, and hilarious activities they must do to help them along the way. The residents are not happy to have them and come up with ways to scare them into leaving. Teague loves his quiet life and is especially anxious to drive them away. He knows people like Phoebe and her family and wants to protect his daughter from their selfish greed. But the more he pushes Phoebe, the more she rises to the challenge and he starts to respect her. The more Phoebe learns about this small town and the frustrating, grumpy lumberjack, the more she questions who she really is. As they spend time together, they start to give in to their attraction. Phoebe starts to care for Teague, his daughter and the small town life with all the quirky residents. But when Teague's secrets come to light, will they be able to get past the truth or will they both feel betrayed and heartbroken? I love Teague and Phoebe together! Phoebe is determined, quirky and fun. She just wants to be a better person and to be loved despite her flaws or her past. Teague was grumpy on the outside but sweet, caring, and knew when to distract her, make her laugh, and when to make her swoon. Their story is hilarious, sweet and at times heartbreaking. This witty, and warm romcom has the right blend of wisdom, belly laughs, hard-earned character growth, and heat. I laughed out loud so many times, and fell in love with the quirky, small-town homey feel, along with all the supportive and quirky family and friends who made this story even more entertaining and authentic.
Savannah Peachwood, and Sebastian York did a great job narrating this moving story and bringing it to life. I loved their humor, and their easy ability to make this hilarious, awkward and emotional story even better!

Eh

Story could have been decent but didn’t like how every person had to be described as white or black. This is the first book that did this that I have listened to.. didn’t like that or the 13 year old child transgender parts. Also think it could have been shortened a few hours.. glad it was on sale.

The audio made this story for me

I am not usually one for Romcoms in general, but I love how Pippa’s stories have all the humor and ridiculousness that comes with the genre. However, she uses it to wrap up hard truths and character growth which makes a really amazing story. I initially crushed on this cover of this book and for some reason (completely an oversight on my end) didn’t realize this was still a romcom. I don’t usually enjoy romcoms unless they are borderline ridiculous, but Pippa has made me rethink my stance on the genre as a whole.

After her grandmother– the family matriarch– has a near death experience, she realizes the way the family lives is certainly not getting anyone into heaven. She demands that the family moves to Tickled Pink, Wisconsin to become better people. Dropped from the Upper East Side into the backwoods of Wisconsin like a newborn giraffe, Phoebe is a fish out of water, unlike her Louboutins at the bottom of the lake. She meets Teague Miller and over the weeks that pass, she begins to realize that life as she knows it may not be the life that she wants.

This story is filled with humor and also serious themes. I loved how Phoebe began to open her eyes to how horrible she was and that she really didn’t like herself. I adored the banter between Phoebe and Teague. However the thing that really made this story a 5 star for me was Sebastian York’s dry delivery of all the amazing one liners in this book. Plus Savannah Peachwood gave emotion and depth to Phoebe. In truth, I am not sure that I would enjoy reading this story, but that’s a personal preference. The audio made me love it!

First DNF for Pippa

I can't stand Oprah and this ruined the whole book. Couldn't stand it anymore and stopped at 45% Story was pretty boring and predictable and I felt like I'd heard it all 100 times before. Sorry Pippa I normally love your books but what happened here? Savannah & Sebyo were great as always so 5 stars for them.

Tickle Me Happy!

Loved this story and the narration was first class! I especially enjoyed Savanah’s delivery and her mastery of the different characters. Pippa does it again and Oh my Oprah I thoroughly enjoyed this foray into small town Wisconsin!

heartwarming humour

I really enjoyed this, it had humour, heart, growth and some delightful characters, some pretty awful ones too, but overall it was a heartwarming read.

When Socialite Grandmother Estelle Lightly has a near death experience, she packs up her whole family (under duress) to the little town of Tickled Pink, to save their souls and make them better people.... and boy do they all need some of that!

Tickled Pick was adorable, a place I'd love to live in. It had its own peace and magic that affected almost everyone, especially Phoebe who went on a huge personal journey, from frankly unlikeable to very loveable. Having gorgeous grumpy single dad Teague in town was also no bad thing, even with his own issues. His daughter was fabulous!

The audio version was excellent, both narrators were very good and brought the characters to life. I'm looking forward to the next in the series (this can be read as a standalone though)

Bit up and down with this one

Starting with the narrators; they were both fabulous and did a really good job with the material.

The story was basically a good one, it was amusing at times, but not laugh out loud. I just had a bit of a problem with the story arc. Phoebe wasn’t very likeable at first ( clearly the intention) but I warmed to her as the story developed ( again no doubt the intention) but I did find her somewhat self absorbed. This I think led to Teague being a bit two dimensional so that when we had the big reveal I’m not so sure what all the fuss was about. I don’t think the Teague/Phoebe relationship had developed enough to warrant her outrage that he hadn’t opened upto her. I think the story concentrated far too much on her and not enough on him or them. I also think the ending was rushed. I also didn’t like Bridgette. Found her bordering on rude as opposed to amusingly smart mouthed. .

Not sorry I listened but it definitely won’t be one on the list fir a second reading

Loved this story ❤

This is a brilliant, unusual set up for an enemies to lovers story.
Set in a small town full of wonderful, quirky characters, who we will hopefully hear more about in future books in the series. I listened to virtually the whole thing on the first day of release, because it was just so good, and then finished listening in the middle of the night, after I woke up at 3am and realised I'd never get back to sleep until I listened to the last 90 minutes, as I just couldn't wait till morning to find out the ending, after such a good plot twist! 😄
I absolutely loved this book, and have already pre-ordered the follow on book for when it is released later in the year.
Excellent narration by Savannah Peachwood & Sebastian York.
And for anyone not familiar with fried cheese curds, yes they really are THAT good! I'm English, but tried them in Minnesota, and Wow!! 😋

Another great book by Pippa grant ……. But

I love Pippa Grant’s books but Savannah Peachwood just takes the gloss off this book as her reading of the male characters is so flawed especially with a side kick like Sebastian York. Please please please-duet style would have really made this book scream orgasms instead of the dull moan it is. Kayley Loring has mastered the duet style of readings/ narration and it’s so wonderful. Please try it in your next book.

An Okay listen... very drawn out

I really struggled with this one.
It felt like the Male lead didn't even like the female main character. At one point he even mentioned that if she wasn't rich she wouldn't be considered beautiful. there was a side story with an ex that seemed weak and didn't really lead to any character growth.
There was so much unnecessary internal dialogue during conversation that really took away from the flow of the story.
The LGBTQ reps were great and there were some occasional funny parts but all in all it was average.
