Publisher's Summary

The Selection meets The Last Unicorn.

Twelve days.

Four realms.

Break the curse.

Or turn into a nutcracker.

I thought I knew the main threat to my freedom.

I was wrong.

At 17 years old, I’m not ready to marry, and yet that’s what I must do as the crown princess of Austria.

But getting to know the foreign princes visiting my kingdom becomes the least of my worries when I touch a bespelled nutcracker and unleash a deadly curse. I have 12 days to feed the nutcracker the magical nut Crackatook. If I fail, my soul will become trapped inside the toy for all eternity, and my body will turn to wood.

Instead of relying on my suitors or the king’s men to find the cure, I saddle my unicorn and sneak out of the palace. My childhood friend Philip insists on tagging along, and soon, we are off to lands filled with mythical creatures.

Will we survive all trials and find the Crackatook in time? Or will my soul become trapped in the nutcracker and my body turn to wood?

Don’t miss this clean YA fairy tale filled with adventure, love, magic, and a strong heroine!

Loved this story!

I don't normally do fairytale remakes, but this one was great! The narrator had the perfect voice for the story, and combined with the author's writing style, I was immediately cast into the fantasy world, journeying alongside Clara, and her bitter step-sister, Griselda.

Such a cool story!

This was such a cool story! Clara becomes cursed by a Nutcracker and has to go on a mission to find a Crackatook nut to feed to the Nutcracker to break the curse. If she doesn't find the nut within 12 days, she will turn into a Nutcracker and her soul will be trapped for eternity. A great adventure with lots of wonderful lands for them to travel to and through. I really enjoyed this story!

A very fun story

I really enjoyed this book.

I loved the trials and how they brought Clara and Philip. I almost cried when Philip sacrificed himself to save his love. This story captured my attention and heart from the start. I cannot wait to read the next installment.

This is Fairy Tale retelling at its finest!!

Princess Clara wishes she could run free & not be honour bound to choose a Prince to marry. As her Mother died in childbirth he has always been overprotective but after his 2nd wife attacked her he's become a much worse over bearing father
On the night of her Ball to introduce her possible husbands. Clara becomes cursed. The curse was contained in her old toy Nutcracker. She hadn't seen it for 10 years and as it was inherited from her Mother, nostalgia at its best.. She now has only 12 days to break the curse or she'll turn into wood & her soul will be trapped forever inside the Nutcracker. she decides she's not leaving it up to the Princes to save her but decides she must save herself. On her way out the window-- her best friend catches her and insists hes tagging along. What are best friends for?!
What follows is two friends relying on one anothers trust & deep friendship to get them through some dangerous & deadly trials. Magical Kingdoms that seem to want to thwart them at every turn, plus some seriously messed up priorities come to light from some people.

Not your usual fairy tale.

At first I did not like it but the story grows on you. The heroine grows in the story which is a good thing. I got this book from a contributor and this is my honest and voluntary review.

cute story

I felt that this story was geared more towards teen/ young readers with the way it was written, spelling everything out, simple phrases and repetition.

Great story

An amazing and captivating story. Hopefully, we get more about the stepsister in the future. I loved all the elements of the nutcracker and the feel of a fairytale that were in this book! Clara and Phillip's adventure was spectacular and I love the POV of Griselda! It added a nice twist to the story! I so would recommend this book to family and friends. The narrator did a good job too.

What a wonderful story

I enjoyed the twist on the fairy tale, a curse that led an adventure of pain, worry, fearless and bravery in the characters. The author wrote this story well, bringing the emotions of the characters alive. I look forward to the next book in the series

The Nutcracker Curse

Loved this book. I enjoyed the spin on Cinderella, Snow White and some other stories, also that the heroine is strong and gets stronger through the Book. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

Adventure and magic

This is a fun story!! It follows two step sisters as one tries to get her revenge by cursing the other. The now cursed sister then goes on a wild adventure to save herself from the curse. There’s riddles and magic and love and a powerful main character! The narration is good and she managers to capture each character distinctly! A great book!

interesting to have Griselda's POV #worthit

The Nutcracker Curse was enjoyable and fun to listen to, and even though it took me by surprise with how much I wanted to follow the story, it just means that I'll have to check more of this author's work :) //

I really liked the story, and the character growth we get to witness in Clara. Her quest definitely grabbed me and made me cheer for her, but I found it also interesting to have Griselda's POV since it definitely enriched this story. While it's true that some of the tasks seemed to be easily solved at times, looking back at the story as a whole, I think the author did a great job at developing the story within the 12-day frame the curse had set. //

The narrator did a wonderful job bringing all the characters to life. Her performance of the emotions was well done (from excitement and happiness to dread and fear), though I think there were a couple of nuances that could have been better. Still, I loved how easy she made it to know which character was speaking, especially with Clara and Griselda both narrating the story, but also with the voices of the king, Philip, the princes, etc. //

Overall, this is a great story that hooked me from the start and never let go. Also, the blurb is right and it's perfect for fans of K.M. Shea, Melanie Cellier, and Kiera Cass, as well as any lovers of Fantasy out there. ~4.75 stars //

Content: there are a couple of passionate kisses but that's it (the first one with her in only a wet nightgown, but there are no wandering hands. However, this book made me appreciate when other authors just leave it at "as the kiss deepened" instead of explaining what tongues are doing, as was the case with this story).
As for language, there's a couple of d**n or d***it.

Unique retelling

I’ve never heard a nutcracker and found this a really unique and creative story. The narration was a tad robotic. I literally checked to see if a robot narrated bc I’ve heard that’s an up and coming thing. It’s not. It was a quick listen and interesting story.
