An instant New York Times and USA Today best seller!

"A deft, fascinating page-turner replete with richly drawn characters and plot twists that would stump Hercule Poirot." (Kate Quinn, New York Times best-selling author of The Alice Network, The Huntress, and The Rose Code)

The New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of The Only Woman in the Room returns with a thrilling reconstruction of one of the most notorious events in literary history: Agatha Christie's mysterious 11-day disappearance in 1926.

In December 1926, Agatha Christie goes missing. Investigators find her empty car on the edge of a deep, gloomy pond, the only clues some tire tracks nearby and a fur coat left in the car - strange for a frigid night. Her World War I veteran husband and her daughter have no knowledge of her whereabouts, and England unleashes an unprecedented manhunt to find the up-and-coming mystery author. Eleven days later, she reappears, just as mysteriously as she disappeared, claiming amnesia and providing no explanations for her time away.

The puzzle of those missing 11 days has persisted. With her trademark historical fiction exploration into the shadows of the past, acclaimed author Marie Benedict brings us into the world of Agatha Christie, imagining why such a brilliant woman would find herself at the center of such murky historical mysteries.

What is real, and what is mystery? What role did her unfaithful husband play, and what was he not telling investigators?

Agatha Christie novels have withstood the test of time, due in no small part to Christie's masterful storytelling and clever mind that may never be matched, but Agatha Christie's untold history offers perhaps her greatest mystery of all.

I enjoyed The Mystery of Mrs. Christie quite a bit, it was a fun and engaging read - kind of like Agatha Christie’s whodunnits.
Looking at some reviews it is important to point out that this is historical fiction not a biography. Agatha Christie did disappear got 11 days only to reappear unharmed at a spa hotel - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle of Sherlock Holmes fame and Dorothy L Sayers of Lord Peter Wimsey fame, thousands of police officers and volunteers joined the manhunt. Afterwards the disappearance was explained with a hysteric fugue state but really never clearly or satisfactorily explained. Marie Benedict has used this real history as a jumping off point and has crafted a fictional narrative around it. A wonderful read for any Agatha Christie fan and a great look at the time - the roaring 20s but also shell shock from the Great War. The early times of working wives achieving maybe even more than their husbands and the struggle that may have posed.

The narration was fantastic for getting me into the setting of 1920s England !

This book has a lovely short fiction audio add-on in the audible short “Smoke Signal” on which Marie Benedict and Kate Quinn collaborated to have a character from The Rose Code meet Agatha Christie right after WWII

I've been hooked on Marie Benedict books ever since I read "The Only Woman in the Room". I have devoured every book of hers since then. This one was my least favorite, not because of her writing but I just found it depressing.

not my favorite of hers but still great

I enjoyed the double narrative and how she brought them together at the end, but she still took me by the surprise as any good mystery should do.

Agatha Christie would be proud.

Would love to hear more about the research that went into this. Is was like reading an Agatha Christie novel, but I kept forgetting it was about her actual life!

I didn’t even know this had happened!

If only this continued! The way Agatha disappeared has never been discussed. Those of us who love her and mysteries have always wondered. This is a great “story” of what could have happened. My only complaint is that it was so short.

A wonderful story of what “could have happened”

This was a quick read however it was pretty obvious on what was going to happen.

Could have been better

The story itself is well known and it’s done well in this book but there were no real surprises. I stuck with this book because Nicola Barber is such a great narrator.

The narrator is fantastic!
