Publisher's Summary

The unassailable Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot travels to northern France to investigate a millionaire’s cry for help. Unfortunately, he arrives a day too late. Paul Renauld is found on a golf course in a freshly dug, shallow grave. Stabbed to death, he is in possession of a cryptic love letter. Pitting his wits against the hostile Paris Sûreté, Poirot is looking into Renauld’s past when another corpse surfaces on the same grounds - with wounds from the same murder weapon. But this time, the victim is a total stranger.

With his penchant for delving into the psychology of murder, the intuitive Poirot finds his footing in Christie’s second classic whodunit featuring the now iconic private detective.

Best Narrator Ever

Wow, Tim Bruce is a talented guy. This reading was a close to perfect as I've ever heard. He speaks a bit slowly, but that's actually great for those of us older folks. The voices were excellent, with subtle differences that made it very easy to follow who was speaking. I also loved this particular story -- maybe the only Agatha Christie I had never read. Really rich and satisfying.

Really it could have been anyone.

There where so many clues yet just like Hasting I was at the mercy of Hercule Poirot.

An okay story

I had trouble concentrating on the story as it didn't really hold my attention. This is the second Poirot novel I've read and I think I prefer Miss Marple's stories.

A fun Thrill

Agatha Christie almost seemed mechanical in her writing. A place for everything and everything in its place. Wonderful stories, characters, plot lines, and drama.

The human element or free will of her characters would seem out of line. This is almost due to the main character Poirot. His foresight into the human psyche makes it impossible. Remember a place for everyone and everyone in their place.

Poirot has his little grey cells working the solution almost as soon as he reads the letter asking for help. All we need to do is read as the story is unraveled before us.

I don't i just was not a part of this one.

Twisty Story Well Told

I was grateful for the explanations throughout the story that helped me follow along with all the clues. Keeps you guessing to the very end. Very enjoyable "read" on a road trip.
