Resumen del Editor

On holiday on the Cornish Riviera, Hercule Poirot is alarmed to hear pretty Nick Buckley describe her recent "accidental brushes with death". First, on a treacherous Cornish hillside, the brakes on her car failed. Then, on a coastal path, a falling boulder missed her by inches. Later, an oil painting fell and almost crushed her in bed.

So when Poirot finds a bullet hole in Nick's sun hat, he decides that this girl needs his help. Can he find the would-be killer before he hits his target?

Classic Poirot story told by the best Hastings

Nice Agatha Christie classic, from the best Poirot narrator. Exciting, a bit unconventional plot, nice ending with several twist

Storyline was okay, had an issue with the solution

Overall the story was not bad. The only real problem I had was with a piece of the solution to the crime. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that I couldn't buy the idea of 2 women sharing the same unique name. As always, Hugh Fraser was great.

One of my favorites

Another great story told by Hastings in his wonderful style. Peril at End House is still one of the best stories by Christie.

Can't go wrong with Hugh Fraser

What does Hugh Fraser bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hugh Fraser, who also stars in the British TV series as Captain Hastings, is a wonderful narrator. I admit I am swayed because hearing his voice has positive associations because of the TV show, but he is an excellent narrator in his own right: Pleasant voice, good enunciation, good timing, and great vocal differentiation for different characters.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoy the escapism of Agatha Christie's work - the mystery, the peek into British culture, the tongue-in-cheek dialogue she sometimes employs. I watch the Acorn series starring David Suchet and have started listening to these during my commute - and my commute has improved immensely.

Thoroughly enjoyable

I’ll confess, I’ve read most Agatha Christie books, just by virtue of being old! So the stories themselves, while enjoyable, aren’t mysteries, since I already know the endings. But I do love to hear Hugh Fraser read Dame Agatha’s detectives, Poirot, Battle, Tommy and Tuppence, etc. He just has the right “voice” for these stories and it is pure pleasure to hear him, without all the histrionics of other readers.

A good twist

Really enjoyed this one. I liked that Poirot showed more emotion than normal and the change of him trying to save a life before they get killed. These stories seem to get better.

Christie had me beffled again

Serves me right for starting to think the Poirot stories were becoming formulaic and predictable. This one honestly had me baffled all the way through the reveal. The only bit I had guessed was my suspicion of the identity of "J". And I suspected the Crofts of something, but I couldn't think what. The rest had me quite fooled. Refreshing. I was quite amused by a reference to The Moonstone in one of their wild theories early on, having enjoyed that mystery novel myself not long before reading this.
Another wonderful performance by Fraser.
