Publisher's summary

A human mob boss and an injured jaguar shifter brought together by a cruel enemy… and fate.

Caden hasn’t believed in fated mates since he was a cub. He figures it’s more of a fairytale that shifter parents tell their kids than the reality of what passes for mates in some of the packs he’s seen.

But then he comes face-to-face with a human man who smells like orange blossoms and radiates authority and safety.

And Caden… Well, he hasn’t felt safe in a long time.

While the rest of the world fears and reviles Quinten Amato and the things he does under the guise of his business, Caden is drawn to him like a cub to an alpha. He doesn’t care what anyone says or what Quinten does, he and his jaguar know the kind of man he is.

The kind who saved his life.
The kind who comforts him when he wakes up terrified.
The kind whose calm commands set his blood on fire.

Convincing his bossy human they’re meant to be together isn’t going to be easy. Especially not when Quinten’s certain Caden needs things he can’t get from him—and that being a part of Quinten’s life in the shadows is too dangerous.

And he might be right.

The Mobster’s Mate is a full-length novel featuring a human with questionable morals and a jaguar shifter who only sees the best in him. You’ll find an age gap, found family vibes, fated mates, and gobs of possessiveness.

This title is a standalone novel set within the Kincaid Pack universe. It can be listened to and enjoyed on its own. However, if you’d like to understand the nuances of the world, then start your journey with The Alpha and His King (Kincaid Pack Book 1).

Enjoyed the ebook Kirt Graves narration made it better

It was fun diving back into Kiki Clark's paranormal world. This time we have Quentin a human, mobster boss and Caden a jaguar shifter. How they met was hard to see. Poor Caden went through so much yet still didn't lose himself and was the perfect mate for someone as dominant as Quentin. Quentin is a very caring and protective person to all under his watch, be they human, shifter, vampire, or witches. I'm glad he got his act together and finally accepted exactly who he his after finally being hit with some hard truths. Him and Caden is magic together and I look forward to seeing more of them in the coming series. One thing I didn't like was how the Kincaid Pack was portrayed in this book. I should note that even though this is set in the Kincaid Pack universe you don't have to read that series to enjoy this one. I recommend it though as that's an awesome series as well.

Wonderful narrator and found-family dynamic!

I’m very particular about the narrators I enjoy, and Kirt Graves’ gravel-filled voice really kept me interested from the get. I’d already read the novel, so I knew I enjoyed the overall story of Quentin and Caden; I had purchased the audiobook as “background noise” through my workday, but I found myself distracted by his voice more often than not. I think he did a wonderful job, even without large distinctions between the character voices, and I look forward to hearing him read other novels I’ve enjoyed!

As for the storyline itself… I’m not fond of storylines that don’t wrap up in the same book it began, especially when the rest of the series isn’t focused on that same couple, but I understand that this seems to be how all of this author’s novels are: interconnected, tangentially or otherwise. I don’t quite agree with the author’s claim that this can be read/listened to as a standalone because my barebones knowledge of Cade and Kai’s story (I’m maybe 40% through the audiobook?) seemed to fill in some blanks, though I was left confused about other things.

Mafia-adjacent elements and age gaps really tickle my fancy; adding shifters into the mix only enhances the enjoyment. It’s safe to say that I love the overall story for what it is, as well as the narrator’s lovely voice.

Frustrating Men - HA!

I am newer to Kiki Clark and have not read the Kincaid Pack stories (although I will be rectifying that fact). So, I didn't have some of the back story. That being said it didn't really take away from this story. I still found it very enjoyable, even if Quinten is a little frustrating - ha! All in all, good story and a good set up for the new series coming. Which I will be gobbling up. Kirk Graves does a great job narrating this. I haven't found a performance by him I didn't like, and this was just another example of his great voice!

Loved it!

This story takes place within the Kincaid Pack universe but you don’t need to have read that series to read this book.
The Mobster's Mate by Kiki Clark is an adult m/m paranormal romance with hurt/comfort and lots of sass!
I loved reading about Caden and Quinten. Caden is a jaguar shifter who is being used by a mafia man to get to Quinten. Quinten is a human mob boss but also a legitimate businessman.
I liked how they both felt a draw towards each other but not until later in the book they both realized they were fated mates. I love Quinten and Caden together.
Kirt Graves does an amazing job of bringing this story to life. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook.

I loved the ebook and the audio is even better

Gahh, I love this book so much. It hasn’t been long at all since I read the ebook, but when I found out that the audiobook was being recorded, I knew I wanted to listen to it asap.

I loved hearing all of my favorite moments from the book in audio, and of course Kirt Graves did a fabulous job with it. I’ve listened to a lot of Kirt audios in a short amount of time lately, and he really is a fantastic performer.
I especially enjoy how the characters sound really distinct without sacrificing the quality.

Soft and delightful read!

Kiki Clark always hits it out of the park and this one did not disappoint at all. I love the instant connection between these two but it still had time for growth! The hurt/comfort was strong in this one and the soft moments they had together were so touching. Really beautiful depiction of two characters who don't think they're deserving of the love in their lives going against the odds and finding it with one another. Also theres definitely a nice amount of found family in here! Of course the new overarching plot has me so excited for the next series. I hope to see from some of these side characters in the future as well (looking at you Nero.)

Kirk Slays AGAIN!!!

After reading the book, it's always sooo fun to hear Kirk bring my boys to life!! He did an amazing job capturing these two men perfectly... It will be a go to, just like my Kincaid pack!!!

This story was so good!

I love Caden! He deserves all the happiness with his fated mate. Quinton has to quit living in denial but he is one of those redeemable bad boys. He really isn’t all that bad and when faced with the ultimate choice, he makes the right one. I love found family too. Not to mention this story is adjacent to the Kincaid Pack which is one of my favorite shifter series ever. Kirk Graves really nails this one. I love his narrations and he does these characters so much justice.
