Publisher's summary

The number one best 1700s historical fiction (Listopia)

This is the second audiobook in the fascinating series about the lives of the beautiful Beth Cunningham, her family, and friends.

Britain moves ever closer to the 1745 rebellion and the impending attempt to restore the Stuarts to the British throne. With no other options available to her, Beth marries the effete and tedious social butterfly Sir Anthony Peters.

She resigns herself to a future of formal parties and dismal social gatherings whilst accompanying a husband who is both tiresome and physically repellent to her. But she consoles herself with the thought that if she is not to know love, then, at least she will have a secure and comfortable life. It may be uneventful, but she will be free of her brother.

The ink on the marriage contract is hardly dry. However, when Beth makes a shocking discovery, it is one that turns her world upside down and throws her whole future into doubt once more. Almost immediately, she must make a decision.

Will she opt for the safe but dreary life her husband wishes her to lead, or will she fight for a life of passion, adventure, and excitement, knowing that in doing so, she risks not only her own life but the lives of those she loves?

Join the rebellion of one woman and her fight for freedom in the Jacobite Chronicles.

Excellent! If you like Outlander, this is for you!!

Such a great listen. I couldn’t put it down. Though the story is completely different and there’s no time slip/dual time lines, I assure you if you liked Outlander you’ll like The Jacobite Chronicles (but you’re must read Mask of Duplicity: Jacobite Chronicles Book 1 first to understand this book—Book 1 is excellent as well). Wonderful characters. Excellent writing and attention to historical detail. Great narration. A verra bonny Highlander and a lovely Sassenach. Great overall story taking place in a fascinating time in history. A wonderful love story with the tension of attraction and the adventure of the times. Highly recommended!

Brilliant sequel to the Magnificent first book

The voice acting talents of Rosalyn and Will continued to amaze me, while listening to the book I've already read, become fully alive and make me fall in love with these characters, and be happily immersed in the Jacobite Chronicles all over again.
Julia's strong research and ability to strategise so well makes this series not only a beautiful romance, but an exciting retelling of what anyone engaged in the rebellion undoubtedly went through.
A must have for anyone.

Definitely better than book 1

Book 1 was difficult to get into. But I was hooked at the end of book one. Book 2 was so much better. Loved it.

Deeper into Deceipt

Marriage to the society fop Anthony Peters, pulls Beth into his deceptive life and bringing her to the attention of the king's son across the water. off on their supposed honeymoon in France and Italy, they become acquainted with King Louis of France and his court as well as a trip to Rome to visit Charles Edward Stuart.

Alex's brother Angus overhears a plot that sends them looking for a spy in Louis' court which leads to murder.

Feeling that Alex doesn't trust her, Beth leaves France alone and her marriage in turmoil.

Thank you to Rosalyn Landor and Will M. Watt who so deliciously portrayed all the voices that brought this story to a new and exciting level.

2nd Book in the Series

The Scarlet Pimpernel meets Outlander minus the time travel. Continuation of book two as the story unfolds and true love develops between the two main characters. Lots of twists. Some of the Scottish accents were a bit hard for me to understand.

Jacobite Intrigue!

Love the historical context! Julia has done her HW regarding events leading up to the ‘45 and has cleverly inserted interesting fictional characters that “might have been”.

Another wonderful audio book by Julia Brannan

I have read the Jacobite Chronicles and I'm now enjoying the audio books. Both Rosalyn Landor and Will M. Watt are wonderful and bring the characters to life. Ms. Brennan has throughly researched this period in Scotland 's history and writes a wonderful read of historical fiction.
