Publisher's Summary

When Princess Guendolen’s privileged existence is shattered by tribal war and the threat of rape impends, she is left with no choice but to surrender her virginity to a lowly commoner. The spoiled sovereign expects a night of torment and shame. Instead, her unlikely bedfellow introduces her to a world of carnal delights.

Prince Taran, dreaded leader of the savage Picts, approaches. He plans to pluck Guendolen’s prized maidenhead. Once she carries his heir, he will claim her father’s throne. King Cedric hatches a frantic scheme. His daughter must lie with one of their own. Better a Briton babe growing in her womb than a Pictish one. With every last man fighting on the battlefield, there is only one lad who is available for such a task, and that is Phalen, her childhood nemesis.

Mysterious as he is defiant, the adopted son of the village blacksmith has little interest in Guendolen’s beauty and considers the overindulged “jewel of the kingdom” to be a royal pain in the rear. Sparks fly each time they meet. On the fated night, Guendolen does her best to obstruct Phalen from carrying out his orders, but what starts out as an act of duty soon turns into an evening of passion.

Our hero and heroine reunite two years later. She, having given birth to his son; and he, having returned from battle - now a formidable warrior. Under constant pressure from her father to marry, Guendolen agrees to wed the father of her bastard child, whose touch she still wears like a brand. The elusive Phalen continues to rile the princess with his taunting gaze, denying her the attention she craves in and out of the bedchamber. Will she ever be able to win the favor of this dark and brooding man?

This is officially my favorite book yet by Tessa!

The Marauder by Tessa Bowen, a story of two mortal enemies that is suppose to hate each other and not fall in love. A story about husband and wife who can't help but to submit in temptations and found each other unable to disentangle themselves with each other because of strong attraction that they tried to deny to themselves.

This is officially my favorite book yet by Tessa Bowen, the story is so enticing and hot! Yes, hot. I love the characters as well as the emotions it made me feel while listening to this book. I can't get enough that I finished this in one sitting! I promise you, if you feel cold during winter this book is like summer hot.

No doubt a great narration by Virginia Ferguson. ❤

A definite 5 star read!

Quick Read and Wonderful Narration

This is the first book in a new series by Tessa Bowen and while the opening is a bit unusual for a ‘romance’ novel, it is fully disclosed in the description of the book.

Read expertly once again by Virginia Ferguson, the ‘hero’ is sometimes hard to love but the story is well penned. I loved the unexpected surprises this book offered. I look forward to reading more in this series as I think there are certainly several characters that could be further explored.

I was provided with a free copy of this audio book for my honest review. The views expressed here are entirely my own.

Surprising and enlightening

I actually liked this story quite a bit though Gwendolyn's constant whining and complaining did get a bit excessive! I haven't much experience with audible books and Ms. Ferguson did a great job representing Gwendolyn's voice but I wasn't very thrilled with the sound of a woman doing a man's voice. So going forward I will probably choose books with both a male and female narrator. This is definitely worth a listen with the push and pull of our marauder and heroine's relationship and a few surprises thrown in!

Main female character is a egomaniac

The story was good but the main female character was really annoying. I know she was supposed to be but I don’t think she actually redeemed her narcissistic behavior by the end like I hoped she would.

An addicting stubborn romance

It's official. Tessa Bowen is the queen of stubborn romance. The kind of romance that makes you want to scream in frustration but you secretly enjoy the ride. And the outcome is well worth it. This book has that. Princess Guendolen is forced to take a mate by her father before their kingdom's enemy takes her for himself. The problem is he chose her childhood enemy, the son of a blacksmith. After the deed is done they are separated by war for a few years. He returns a hero and becomes a father and her husband. Don't go thinking a child made these two fall in love. Far from that. It's a stubborn battle. Talk about enemies to lovers! Just when you think you have this story figured out this author hits you with an exposed secret that will shock you. I know I yelled "oh my god" myself. This story was a fun ride and I am pretty sure I felt every emotion possible. Romance fans, add this one to your list. And Tessa Bowen fans, get ready for what is I think her best one yet.

Great story

I enjoy reading this book. The plots and story line is very good. The only thing I didn’t like about is how childish the heroine was. I wish she would stopped saying that she’s beautiful and that’s enough. She’s liked a little child all through. Virginia Ferguson did an great job at narrating.

You had me at witty banter!

OMG! I love this one! I can’t believe this story!!! It’s so fun that I sit here with a smile on my face. The shocks and....maaann that witty back and forth banter?!? I can NOT get enough of that! This will easily be an audio I will listen to again and again. Guendolen (cool spelling) is a girl who is used as a pawn but turns it to her advantage. She is tenacious once she finds what she wants. I many times thought..”just move on! “ but she doesn’t want to and sinks her teeth in and hangs on!

Tessa Bowen did a great job with these two characters. They are smart and I really “felt” for them both on different occasions. The story moves along at a quick pace and did I mention that bantering? Oh I did? Well I loved it and it add to these characters.

I listened to this on audio and it was the best! I have not listened to Virginia Ferguson before and at first thought she would be hard to understand with the accent. BUT she surprised me and I ended up loving her voicing these characters. She really brought them to life!

An entertaining historical romance

Historical Romance is not typically my genre of choice so I found the naive sexual descriptions humorously cringeworthy (dewy petals and horns).

Tessa Bowen did an excellent job portraying a ultra vein, inexperienced, spoiled princess who can't fathom someone not succumbing to her beauty. The story jumps back and forth between the "present" and times of the main characters youthful encounters laying out the entire story in an expertly arranged progression that kept my interested and listening to the story in one day.

Virginia Ferguson does an excellent job narrating and carrying the story.

LOVE IT!!!!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book!! It is a sexy, funny story. The beginning was hilarious "Blue Horn". I received some funny looks at a stop light I was laughing so hard.. (this is the fourth book I have listened to by Tessa Bowen, and I think I have laughed with all them, definitely puts a smile on your face) I love the dialogue between the characters, Princess Guendolen met her match in Phalen. Guendolen is a very whiny, selfish and spoiled princess who thinks everyone should love and bow down to her, and Phalen could care less, he is indifferent to her, and it drives her crazy. You have a love /hate relationship with the characters and you will find a lot of unexpected surprises!

The Maurader

I loved this book in every way! The conversations and quick comebacks these two have towards each other were fantastic! And the twist that you didn’t see coming was even better! Overall a great book and the pick of narration was absolutely perfect! The accent done here is perfect.

Brilliant!

This is a very enjoyable and excellently written historical, enemies to lovers romance. The storyline is riveting; loaded with drama, love, passion, hate, and betrayal. Just when you think you know what direction, the story is taking, there is a surprising twist, altering the course of the plot. Tessa Bowen is an exceptional storyteller; she captivates the readers/listener with her imagination, witty writing, and dialogue. The characters are unique, fascinating, engaging, and at times utterly frustrating, as it's intended.

The main characters have very distinct personalities with varying qualities and views, generating conflict. Princess Guendolen has lived a privileged life, she is superficial, has been idolized, and doted on all her life. The hero, Prince Taran, is a hard man, an alpha, and a great warrior who doesn't care much for shallowness, placing him at odds with Guendolen. Together, they have an explosive connection and sizzling chemistry. The intimate scenes are well-written, sensual and steamy.

The narration by Virginia Ferguson is outstanding. She does an incredible job bringing the story to life, honing in on each character simulating their personalities. Overall, The Marauder is a marvellously entertaining listen, and I can't wait for the second book in the series

Another hit

Tessa Bowen does it again. I’m not good at reviews but this is well worth what ever way you get it. Opposites attract, pirates 😉 I love that he isn’t a pushover for her attitude etc. . I found myself laughing out loud and that’s always a good thing, a roller coaster ride of goodness , great narration by Virginia Ferguson too. Quick read and could keep listening. On to the next book by T. B.
I got a code for this book , but would definitely recommend it !

Great listen

Another great story written by Tessa Bowen. Love the opposites attract aspect of the story. The narration was good with the female narrator doing a great job of both female and male voices.

Great story opposites attract

This is the first story I’ve read/listened to written by Tessa and narrated by Virginia and I’m glad I had the chance to listen to The Marauder. 2 complete opposite personalities couldn’t have been more perfect for each other as I believe Gwendolyn and Taran were. The story started out a bit weird but as I kept listening I got into it. Virginia did an amazing job voicing the different characters and letting the reader know that someone new was speaking.

Frustrating and Satisfying

I was surprised how the author connects the characters in this enemies to lovers romance. There is a twist that just really caught me off guard. I would have liked for Guendolen to be less whiney and superficial; but when I think about it, it is more a cry for attention than anything. She does make herself useful and change in ways that I found to be redeeming for her character. I did also find myself frustrated with Prince Taran as well, with how cold hearted he seemed. It was a frustrating as well as enjoyable listen though and I was satisfied with how things end. A great story.

The narrator gave an excellent performance and was a great fit for the setting of this book. She definitely brought out the character's personality traits well and did a great job with the older language used throughout the book.

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

The heartless marauder!

The story about a spoiled princess who finds herself being given away to a lowly blacksmith. The King planned this for her not to be taken by the Picts prince and thus losing his reign. Little do they know, the Prince is the most cunning of them all. I was a bit put down by the princess. She was way too shallow. But she grows some with the Prince’s ignoring her in a land where she is a stranger and also the enemy. I did like the end though.

Britons Jewel

I had a hard time liking the heroine due to her entire focus being on image. I have to give her props though for constantly putting herself out there to a husband that constantly puts her down. The hero was very alpha and he gave us some great steamy scenes but he was also extremely rude and hard to like. A little too blunt and cold for me. There was a sub plot of the Britons and Picts fighting that was very good to the story line. To simplify, I believe this is a story trying to turn enemies into lovers. The narrator did a fantastic job of going at a great pace. She also put a lot of emotion into each character, bringing them to life.

Great settings

This was my first pirate book and I must say I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t as harsh as I thought it would be. And yet again Tessa has a way of making me fall in love with the pirate! Fantastic writing skills.
