Publisher's Summary

From award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris comes the magical second book in the New York Times best-selling series with even more tricks up its sleeve.

Growing up in an orphanage, Leila was bullied for being different. She turned her hardship into skill by becoming an escape artist - a valuable trait when belonging to a group of magical best friends. But when a famous psychic comes to town, Leila and her pals won't be able to escape the big mystery heading their way. Whether chasing mad monkeys or banishing ghosts from haunted hotels, these six friends will do their best to keep Mineral Wells safe - but can they still protect themselves in the process?

Join the Magic Misfits as they discover adventure, friendship, and more than a few hidden secrets in this delightful new series. Whether you're a longtime expert at illusion or simply a new fan of stage magic, hold on to your top hat!

...have more questions? I thought you might. Here's some answers:

WHERE? A sleepy town in New England. Within the town is a magic shop run by the friendly but mysterious Dante Vernon - the gang's caped and top-hatted mentor.

WHO? Carter, who can make things vanish. Leila, who can escape from anything. Theo, who can make things levitate with the aid of his violin bow. Ridley, who can invent anything. And, of course, twins Olly and Izzy, who can make anyone laugh.

WHY? Because together, these six magical misfits will discover adventure, friendship, and the town's long-hidden secrets.

(Psst. Hey, you! Yes, YOU! Congratulations on reading this far down. As a reward, I'll let you in on a little secret.... This book isn't just a book. It's a treasure trove of secrets and ciphers and codes and even tricks. Keep your eyes peeled and you'll discover more than just a story - you'll learn how to make your own magic!)

Wonderful story- annoying performance

I listened to the first book of the series with my son. The author Neil Patrick Harris was amazing as he read aloud the story.

This book was read by another actor. Her performance at best was annoying. When she gave voice to the twins I wanted to fast forward to get her annoying voice over with. This book had a would have been much more enjoyable with a different voice reading it. Please bring back Neil Patrick Harris!!

Trigger warning

Good book, but be aware that there is themes of adoption in this book that could be tigger to some. Including birth parents suddenly showing up and wanting to take the children away from their adoptive family.

I loved the first book and this story continues the adventure. I was not as impressed with the reader as the first book, but she did ok. can't wait for the next book in the series.

excellent second book

My nine year old and I listened to the first book last year while on a road trip and enjoyed it thoroughly. It definitely holds up as an inclusive and entertaining little middle grade read. Today, we had a sick day, and I recalled that there were sequels, so we popped #2 on and vegetated throughout the day, and it was lovely. The new narrator is fantastic, and NPH still makes appearances to narrate the magic interludes. Great way to improve a poopy day. :)

Good story for kids

I really enjoyed the first book, sadly this one was not quite on par. I love the mix in of magic that the kids can learn and that it comes with a pdf of pictures and excerpts from the book.

The story is good but I have never really been one to believe in the mystic arts that are played out in the book. If you can get around that aspect of the book then you should enjoy the rest of the book.

Like the addition of the new little character that pops in. Thought it was a cute little touch.
