Publisher's Summary

Worship from Afar
Brooks Sutherland has been interested in Darcy Winters since he first laid eyes on him at the Courtesan Hotel, where Brooks worked as a bodyguard. Darcy never knew he existed. When Brooks had a seizure that resulted in loss of his eyesight from a head trauma, he could no longer do his job. Years later, Brooks comes back to bid on Darcy at the annual summer auction. He knows Darcy all too well and wants him to relax before Darcy kills himself from stress. Kidnapping him away for a vacation is perfectly reasonable - to Brooks.

Workaholic on Vacation
As far as Darcy is concerned, the Courtesan Hotel will be a disaster without him, so he doesn’t expect his mother to put him up for auction as a last-minute surprise. The man who wins time with him is charming, but Darcy has no plans to be swept away from his work. A night will more than do. When Brooks hustles him off on a vacation, he’s not sure how to relax, but Brooks is a good distraction.

Stress Less or Else
Darcy needs someone to teach him how to let go, and Brooks thinks he’s that man. But making a relationship work is a lot harder than he expects, because Darcy runs back to the Courtesan every chance he gets. Brooks wants to take care of Darcy, but unless Brooks can learn what that really means, he’ll push Darcy away instead. If that happens, neither man will get what he needs.

The Madam's Boy

The only life Darcy has is the Courtesan, all that he knows is the running of the place for his mother. Darcy loves his mother but at times he longs for a life outside of the Courtesan. Little does he know that his mother has plans for Darcy that do not include the Courtesan. When Darcy finds himself in the summer auction, he will do what he must and follow through with his mother’s plans no matter what it costs him.
.
I enjoyed Darcy’s story. He is so much more than what everyone perceives him to be. Only one man ever saw the truth and now he has come back to lay claim to Darcy. Brooks has come to show Darcy that there is more to life than the Courtesan and he is ready for the fight even if he has to fight Darcy himself. It was nice to see the relationship grow between the two. Brooks and Darcy make a wonderful couple and it was nice to see Darcy grow with the help of Brooks. I liked that Brooks was a strong person even with his health problems he lives a good life. The author weaves a story full of strong characters and emotions. Narrator TJ Clark does a good job of bringing this story to life and pulling me in.

Loved it

I loved this book. TJ Clark really brings this story to life and makes you fall in love with the characters even more. Brooks Sutherland has had his eye on Darcy Winters. Darcy never noticed him when he worked at the Courtesan Hotel. After a seizure that caused him to hit his head he couldn't work there anymore. Brooks returns after finding out Darcy is in the summer auction. Darcy isn't pleased when he is put up for auction and doesn't recognize his buyer. Brooks wants to take him away from the chaos that is the Courtesan Hotel and help him relax. Will Darcy relax and find love or fight it the whole way?

A fun listen

I wasn't sure if I was going to like the book because I didn't like the idea of selling someone's body, but once I found out why he was sold, I was intrigued. The story is fun and I loved the banter between the main characters. This is the first story I have listened to where epilepsy is the disability. My sister has epilepsy so I could relate to what the character was going through. I really enjoyed this book and the narrator did an excellent job.

Good Story

I liked how even though Brooks had issues with his health and vision, he was able to overcome them and be a independent force to be reckoned with. His love for Darcy is visible from the beginning. Darcy had a hard time overcoming his need to control the situations around him. He was able to give up some of his control and you could see his love for Brooks.

Great story

Ki and M.D. are becoming two of my favorite authors. I know when I pick up a book by these two I will be entertained. This story was no different.

I loved the story of Brooks and Darcy so much. Darcy is the Ice Prince no more. His mother leaves a lot to be desired and I’m not convinced that she was apologetic enough for what happened.

I definitely recommend this audiobook!

Great narrator, not so great story

The narrator did a wonderful performance for both characters. He was new-to-me and I'll certainly look for more of his books.

From the blurb, I had the impression that this book would be very different. There were so many problems in this story since the first chapter, but I kept reading, hoping it'd improve, that the issues would turn out differently and that I'd eventually enjoy it, but it didn't happen like that.

It starts with Darcy being sold by his mother, against his will, in an action. This is stated in the blurb, so, no surprises there. But when Darcy is with Brooks, the problems started. For a man who claims to have been in love with Darcy for so long, Brooks's behavior was terrible and he was very creepy in the way he handled things. He didn't care that Darcy wasn't interested, or that he didn't want to be in that situation, he simply took what he paid for. Even worse because Darcy was a virgin at that point and it all happened with the Madam's consent, but of course it wasn't her consent that was required. Now, I do enjoy reading non-con, but it needs to be in the right context, which wasn't the case here.

Brooks wants to convince Darcy to relax and spend a few days away from work, but instead of spending some time with him to make him more comfortable and willing to go, he just keeps being aggressive and taking Dacy's choices. It should be seen as a Dom/sub thing, but it isn't, not at the beginning before they have even established so much as a safeword.

Slowly, Brooks shows his nice side and (finally) respects Darcy's decisions, but not entirely. He still feels he knows better and they struggle to find a compromise because, at that point, Darcy is already in love and has forgiven all Brooks and his mother set up for him.

I didn't like the way this couple came together, it felt too much like an abusive relationship as opposed to a D/S dynamic, which I believe was the author's intention.

But of course, there were things I liked a lot. Brooks's disability was very well handled (both his blindness and epilepsy), not romanticized, and not only mentioned briefly. We see a couple of his epileptic episodes on page and they are thoroughly described, and we see how important it is to know what to do in a situation like that, and also the importance of the support dogs. I loved how strong and confident Brooks was, having learned to live with his condition and not shying away from his real dominant personality.

Levi's character was one of my favorites, despite so many reviewers disliking him, I thought he was cleverly portraited as someone who was in love and felt the pain of being replaced in a certain way. He only wanted to protect Brooks and his heart was in the right place. I felt sorry for him in that situation.

Steamy forced proximity romance - great narration!

Thrilling romance with well-written, deliciously complicated MC’s. I loved the mystery of Brooks and how he waltzes into Darcy’s life, so self-assured, a man on a mission. Brooks is domineering and has a bit of a dark side too, so he can definitely hold his own in Darcy’s world. I like how protective he is of Darcy and the slightly manipulative, forceful way he has of acting on his protective streak. Darcy is a workaholic, very driven, and caught in a trap of his own professionalism and dedication. I’d have liked it if the story had delved a bit more into his psyche, and a bit more appreciation from his mother and the people who work at the Courtesan would have been nice too. But then Madam Winters isn’t exactly a warm, cuddly person, and she does show him she cares in other ways. I think it’s great how Brooks being visually impaired and having epilepsy is never an issue for Darcy. I also loved how Darcy turned the tables on Brooks and demanded that the caring in their relationship should be a two-way street.

Narration: Brilliant!! A wonderful listen! TJ Clark is a new-to-me narrator and I loved what he did with this story. He really captured the essence of both the MC's in his performance! Subtle, intense and vulnerable as needed for the moment, bringing to story to new heights.

The Ice Prince and the bodyguard

I like the world of New Gothenberg so I was looking forward to this audiobook.
The two main characters are Darcy Winters, the son of Madam Winters and Brooks Sutherland, the former bodyguard of the Courtisan Hotel.
The latter already had his eye on Darcy when he was still working there. Brooks seizes the opportunity and boosts Darcy at auction for a night. This is where I had a problem, because Darcy didn't agree to this auction - Madam Winters did her thing. Sure she's concerned about Darcy, but I didn't really grow to like her because of this action.

What I did like brilliantly, on the other hand, was the multi-layered character of Brooks. The authors described his disability sensitively, but didn't put it in the foreground and his handling of it was simply normal and understandable.
I also liked the excellent relationship building. Brooks has a protective nature, he knows what he wants and how to enforce it. Darcy is always in control in his work, but he definitely has too little free time and in his personal life he is rather insecure. Every now and then his ice prince behavior flashes through. The interplay between Brooks and Darcy was great and moved the story along.

The book is very well written, the storyline is interesting and the sex is hot.

The audiobook was narrated by TJ Clark, who was new to me. He did a fantastic job reading the story in a captivating way. The characters were easy to distinguish and he conveyed the emotions well. It was a pleasure to listen to.
I can recommend the audio book!

Mr Winters

Honestly, I’m just glad we finally got to meet Darcy and experience who he really is. I absolutely loved that he was the Ice Prince but also a sweet guy for Brookes.
It was read absolutely brilliantly, TJ did a fantastic job! The characters where brought to life so well and I 100% fell into this story. If we didn’t know which characters POV we where listening too you’d still be able to tell bc TJ gave them there own ‘voices’ for everything!

I did at times find myself wanting Darcy to stand up to Madam Winters, and give her what for, though that could just be me as a person 🤷🏼‍♀️

Without giving too much away, I really enjoyed the scene with Darcy being unable to help Brookes. You gotta love a bit of angst these two lovelies!
I kind of wish Darcy would’ve stuck up for himself more at some points within the story whether when Brookes was being a lil bit of an alphahole or with those at the Courtesan however, overall I really enjoyed this and would absolutely recommend it!

I kind of wish we had gotten to see some of the boys from the previous books! Though I did love when the Harlots appeared.

I’m now wondering if we’re going to get a book for Levi? Kinda likes the guy in the end 😂

Loved the ending, hated the start

This story to me started too close to rape.
The ending showed love but I just couldn’t get of their first time together. I nearly couldn’t finish it, but I hate not going though to the end.
I’m glad it all worked out for them.

Wonderful Characters, A Fantastic Romance!

I always enjoy the characters Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory write. Complex and interesting, these folks are always unique. And there's nothing better than when everything comes together in a character who is completely genuine, and I become fully invested in their story.

Darcy Winters is just this kind of person. Determined and clever, this young man has a huge heart. Even as he’s being tricked into his getaway with Brooks, Darcy maintains his poise, sticks to his guns, and stays true to himself.

While some of Brooks’ methods might not initially appeal, Darcy tentatively succumbs to, and then gracefully accepts, the new sensations and ideas Brooks evolks in him. Experimenting with submission is a huge step for Darcy, and the authors do a marvelous job of exploring his reactions every step of the way.

I’m impressed with the way Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory weave Brooks’ disabilities into the storyline. Respectful of both his blindness and his epilepsy, the authors treat his conditions as a normal part of life, instead of a handicap. The way Brooks is adapting to the changes in his life is inspiring.

The audio version of The Madam’s Baby Boy is narrated by TJ Clark who does a tremendous job. He uses a gruff but gentle voice for Brooks, which suits him so well. And the way he performs Darcy’s high strung, stressed out panic attacks are simply perfect. Hopefully we'll be hearing him read more New Gothenburg novels soon!

Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book a lot, the characters and plot are extremely interesting, although I must admit when I read in the plot that Brooks steals Darcy away for a vacation I was expecting something more traditional than an actual kidnapping and at least dubcon situation. That being said, the book is very well-written and is kept fresh and interesting by Brooks forceful and heavy-handed way of getting Darcy to relax and Darcy’s prickliness that in most cases results in him lashing back and resorting to his “Ice Prince” ways. Apart from when Brooks manages to get him out of his head by doing any sort of super steamy things to him!

Finally! the ice Prince is thawed

I loved the serious and up tight Darcy in the cameos in the other books and always wondered about him and the way he was and boy did this book open it all up!! I felt for Darcy and his perfectionist tendencies. His need for control and things to be a certain way is something I totally understand. it's really hard to let go of those processes. I think Brooke's is perfect for Darcy. I would have thought with all the observing he'd have known he needed to "mess up" to get Darcy's attention but I get why he didn't. He and Darcy are well matched and there time together is intense, I would have liked a bit more on page aftercare as some scenes were really intense. I think Brookes had the perfect remedy for Darcy just perhaps with less kidnapping LOL
These two are another wonderful addition to this world and I really hope we get more cameos of the new and improved Darcy in future books!!!

Very enjoyable

This is a unique storyline. I loved the characters and their personalities. I was surprised at how well written these characters were, especially the partially blind alpha. This condition didn’t take away from the dominance of this man. A brilliant performance from TJ, with a great deep tone to his voice I could listen all day and night.
