Graham, Lord Blakemore, was believed to be lost at sea as a boy. While his mother, Lady Agatha, has never given up hope of finding her son again, others - eager for the title and the wealth that accompanies it - have been conspiring to have him declared dead against Lady Agatha's wishes. Her only ally in the house is her late husband's ward, Miss Beatrice Marlowe.

But when a dark-haired stranger arrives on their doorstep claiming to be the lost heir to Castle Black, the plots and schemes of those who would have the castle for themselves take a dark and even more sinister turn.

An orphan when she came into the care of the late Lord Blakemore, Castle Black is the only home Beatrice has ever known. Its occupants are her family. This stranger, who claims to have lost his memory of his life there, threatens the order of all that she knows and holds dear. And yet, she is both drawn to him and strangely compelled to believe his claim. Beatrice finds herself torn between her desire for him and her belief that if he is the lost lord of Castle Black, he is far above her reach.

Loved ALL but the horrible voice given to Lord Blackmore. So screeching and impossible to make gentler where needed.

Great mystery!

It has been so long since a story grabbed me so quickly. I can’t put this down. Fantastically written and read.

Grabbed my from the beginning

I enjoyed the mystery of this and the concept. So I was surprised that I was never moved or engrossed in it. For one thing, the narrator used the same voice for the MMC as he did for one of the obnoxious, perverted villains. So it made me immediately dislike him, and it was hard to hear him speak of love and smexy things to the FMC when that was the voiced used to SA her by another character. I found the FMC respectable and rational, which I like, but I again, never felt like I cared. Still, it kept me entertained until the finish.

This was okay, but didn't move me

The story definitely kept me listening. Some parts seemed unlikely….but what fun anyway! This narrator has SUCH a lovely voice with a pleasant accent perfect for Beatrice. When she changes to depict Graham’s voice though, the gravel of it makes him seem like he is angry all the time.
Great plot….

Good Mystery
