First book was a long listen - Story and technology were intriguing.

THE NARRATOR was a VAST improvement

Good extension

This was a good extension of the previous story. It is obvious that it leaves more to be written. The New Men are exposed a little more. Just be prepared to have to get the next book.
Boyett did a good job.

Good story

I really am starting to enjoy this series. Great storyline... And, a swashbuckling adventure with interesting characters who are developing in depth in this second book. If you liked the first book (I did.) then you will find this one even better.

Great adventure

Narrator has convincing distinctive voices. Good peril, character development, technological innovations and sci-fi world creation. Good strategic battles in space and in person.
Looking forward to more in the series.

Well Thought Out Series

This book works well as the second in a series. The Writer does well to continue from the last book instead of taking a chapter or two to catch you up. In all series, at the second book, the Writer has to remind you of things as you keep reading. So too does Vaughn Heppner remind you of details, however, the Writer does not slow down the pace of the read to give you a history lesson. The second volume in a series allows the writer to really take off with the story, and this book is no let down. No huge questions are left looming to distract you from the telling of the story. Much is explained about each character and the polishing of them shines through. Very enjoyable listen.

Mark Boyett never disappoints.

Good book

I really enjoyed reading this book. I only wish the first book was narrated by Mark Boyett. Hopefully he reads the next book also.

Not as good as the first book

I hated the fact that this story essentially eliminated the strength of all the female characters. The super brilliant doctor Dana Rich became a whiny idiot with a bad Indian accent who couldn't think her way out of a wet paper bag, the super strong, intuitive engineer Meta became the weak female hostage trope with totally unused engineering skills, and the smart and brash Lt Valerie became an indecisive person. This was a lot of hostage trope, chase scenes in space ships, ridiculous fight scenes, admirals ignoring sound advice and walking into traps Admiral Akbar style. "It's a trap!" I was bored and it took a couple of weeks to get through. The first book took me two days of listening. I'm hoping book three isn't more of the same. Oh and if the author reads this, for future reference, if you change readers, make sure they know either use the pronunciations of the last reader and can pronounce names like Leonidas. It's pronounced Lee-Oh-Nee-Dass not Lee-On-Ee-Das. Either way, listening to 15 hours of a word said one way and then bring subjected to an entirely new pronunciation​ is quite jarring.

Narration was especially good. Mr. Boyer is very talented.

I liked this book even better than the first. That might be because I'm more invested in the characters now, but I do think Heppner has done a fantastic job writing this book. I often find myself bored with many writers because of too much fluff and being way too verbose in their writing. That isn't the case with Mr. Heppner and I look forward to the next volumes..

Riveting

I am so glad I bought Book 2 of this series. After the appalling narration of Book 1, which spoilt it for me, it was a relief, and a real series saver for the author, to use Mark Boyett. One rider to that is; please, please, drop the scottish accent; it doesn't work. Some phraseology is not what a Scot would use and seems to revert to cockney at times. That said, cockney is preferable to the struggle with scottish accent. This is the only reason why I gave performance 4 stars, which may be a little harsh!

The continuing pace made this a book I had trouble putting down and got through it in two sessions, which was quite a feat for me. I am looking forward to the next instalment.

Decent followup

Enjoyed it once it got going. It was not as good as the first book. The characters were what made it entertaining. Boyatt is an excellent narrator.
