Publisher's Summary

Star Watch defeated the Swarm Invasion Fleet, but at a terrible cost in destroyed star systems, smashed battleships and billions of dead. In the aftermath of the costly victory, chaos threatens as worlds leave the Commonwealth of Planets, face mass starvation or succumb to increased piracy. The war against the Swarm Imperium has just begun. Humanity needs unity or each planet will fall alone. Brigadier O'Hara of Star Watch Intelligence stumbles onto a secret conspiracy. Someone is trying to destroy the Commonwealth from within, and they have an alien artifact of incredible power. O'Hara summons Captain Maddox. Although she fears to lose him, she knows that Maddox and his crew have the best chance of finding the hidden enemy. If the captain fails, the Commonwealth will be powerless to stop its destruction. What O'Hara doesn't know--it would probably break her heart if she did--is that she has just sent Maddox into the most harrowing battle of his career. THE LOST ARTIFACT is the eighth book in the LOST STARSHIP SERIES.

Fantastic Adventure Again

The author does not disappoint. Add in the luscious reading and voice acting of Mark Boyette, and you have perfect entertainment!

Disappointing… poorly written.

No where near as good as the series started. Story was forced did not employ any of the cleverness as the starting books did.

Starting to get old

Thinking its about time to wrap this series up. The story is getting old. Very repetitious formula. If another comes out I doubt that I will spend the time to listen. If you had just listened to 2-3 of them it is pretty good storyline. However, I have listened to the entire series and ready to move on to something else with different characters and a different storyline formula.

This is the last one for me

The book felt somewhat hollow to me. the only characters that got any real attention was Maddox, strand, and to some degree the Android. you barely got any snippets of metta, Keith, or Veronica. I wasn't engaged throughout the book and it just wasn't up to snuff compared to the previous books.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion, you may love the book, I personally enjoy a wider range of characters and viewpoints in a story. I won't be buying anymore in the series but wish the author good things.

with each entry in this series my dislike for Maddox increases. I'll be rooting for the bad guys soon...

Outstanding continue action of series

I enjoy this series. I am looking forward to the next book. If you haven't started reading this series I strongly recommaned it. It is sometimes hard to follow but the series is outstanding. Do not try to listen or read this series lets say from book 3 you must read them in order.

Pages of Useless Information

I loved these books up until, 'The Lost Artifact'. There are so many pages of useless dialogue and introspection that causes the book to drone on and on - he thought about tying his shoes with his left hand, then remember he shouldn't use his left hand because he had a right hand... sort of none sense.

It's items like this that extend the number of pages in the book but have little to no impact on the story.

Overall, Vaughn Heppner is very talented author. Many of Vaughn's other books have this same introspection (most story's do), but they are kept to a minimum and they do actually impact that particular story - my hope is this is just a anomaly..

Mark Boytte is a great narrator, so no issue there...

Poorly Written

This book has more plot holes than a block of Swiss cheese. It's frustrating to read. the premise is interesting, but the execution is awful. The characters are contradictory and make no sense, even after you know their personality. Captain Madox is the worst. He is everything a captain should not be.

No Shortage of Action

A little slow to start, but once it got going all hell seemed to break loose and it was rollercoaster all the way.

Love this series, but perhaps the next book could be a little quicker coming, please.

Non stop interest, not deep but good

More of the same, but with more character development, so getting better still.
The concentration on the core ship and characters worked well. Almost two endings, wanted more of the first, than the more rushed second and final one. All good though looking forward to more.
