Read by the author.

Walking through Psalm 23 phrase by phrase, therapist and author K.J. Ramsey explores the landscape of our fear, trauma, and faith. When she stepped through her own wilderness of spiritual abuse and religious trauma, K.J. discovered that courage is not the absence of anxiety but the practice of trusting we will be held and loved no matter what.

How can we cultivate courage when fear overshadows our lives? How do we hear the Voice of Love when hate and harm shout loud? This book offers an honest path to finding that there is still a Good Shepherd who is always following you. Braiding contemplative storytelling, theological reflection, and practical neuroscience, Ramsey reveals a route into connection and joy that begins right where you are.

The Lord is My Courage is for the deconstructing and the dreamers, the afraid and the amazed, for those whose fear has not been fully shepherded but who can't seem to stop listening for their Good Shepherd's Voice.

I’ve ordered copies for several people. My family is in the middle of church abuse so this was balm to my soul!
My only caveat is that I think the author takes a few doctrinal leaps that I would not agree with Biblically as well as some sweeping statements regarding social matters that are more complex than she suggests. However, the bulk of everything she describes regarding trauma, courage and resilience is truly healing. Thank you for writing this book KJ Rawlings!

Mostly amazing and truly healing!

Just finished the first read through and cannot wait to listen again. Your words birthed through unimaginable pain were confirmation of many things I’ve been receiving from the Lord within the context of my own experience of marital and spiritual abuse. 6 months divorced and nearly a year since I dimmed the doorway of a church building, I’m learning to embrace deconstruction as I filter out the voices telling me I’m fast tracking my ticket to hell. Thank you for your rawness, for your vulnerability. The masses need this message.

First off, KJ reading her work here is a pure gift. I have the hard copy and the audio, and there is something special about hearing her read it with her natural passion, humor and tenderness throughout. Second, if you’ve walked through any valley of the shadow, This book is a rich comfort. Her stories of spiritual abuse were relatable, and KJ does not tiptoe around this subject. With truth and wisdom, she tells her story of harm and healing in way in which we can all find ourselves.

This will go down as one of my favorite books ever. KJ does an amazing job of not just explaining the scripture but taking you deeper. I'm so thankful she was willing to share her heart and her story. I'm planning to buy this book for every pastor on our church staff. This book is definitely a must read for anyone processing their own hurt whether from church staff, church members, family, friends or others. But it's also a must read for anyone who wants to help a friend who's been through this or someone who wants to help prevent it within their own circles.

I wa split in my thoughts, happy to hear from another who has went through, maintained their integrity and relationship with Christ. The second part makes me sad, recognizing that we're not the only ones.
Thank you for writing this, sorry you had a reason to.

Abuse happens

As someone recently tied to the weight of mental and physical suffering as well as being in vocational ministry, someone plunging himself into the Words written to bring life without feeling alive, someone seeking desperately to embrace hope within the walls of Doubting Castle; this book has for me, offered a key not made of steps and answers, but a Promise found within relationship.

KJ uses her relational writing to open doors not only of vulnerability and transparency, but of renewed hope where one’s thoughts, held so long without the ability to so comprehensively and compassionately put pen to paper, take form and life in order that the truth may be seen, the present felt, and the floodgates of love, joy, and peace to flow freely within.

Thank you
