Acerca de esta escucha
Andy Adams (1859-1935) was born to pioneer parents in Indiana, worked in Texas for a decade driving cattle, and settled in Colorado Springs, where he penned his cowboy narratives. The Log of a Cowboy chronicles a five-month drive of three thousand head of cattle from Brownsville, Texas, to the Blackfoot Indian Reservation in Montana.
This classical work of fiction provides fascinating insights of everyday life on the Great Western Cattle Trail with a team of 12 cowhands, a cook, a horse wrangler and a foreman. The narrative weaves engaging stories within stories, of stampedes, gunfights, river-crossings, and campfire gatherings where tall tales were exchanged.

Historia
A classic about the American West and the life and times of one tough cowboy, Monte Walsh. Partial to pretty women, gambling, and practical jokes, Monte doesn't have to look far to find trouble. Luckily for him, Monte's best friend, Chet, is always there to post bail or quickly get Monte out of town. As Monte grows older, though, and the West inevitably changes, he resists changing with it, and shows his dedication and loyalty to the cowboy way of life.

Historia
The Open Range cattle era lasted barely a quarter-century, but it left America irrevocably changed. These few decades following the Civil War brought America its greatest boom-and-bust cycle until the Depression, the invention of the assembly line, and the dawn of the conservation movement. It inspired legends, such as that icon of rugged individualism, the cowboy. Yet this extraordinary time and its import have remained unexamined for decades. Cattle Kingdom reveals the truth of how the West rose and fell, and how its legacy defines us today.

Historia
The summer of 1876 was a key time period in the development of the mythology of the Old West. Many individuals who are considered legends by modern listeners were involved in events that began their notoriety or turned out to be the most famous—or infamous—moments of their lives. Those individuals were Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, and Jesse James. The Summer of 1876 weaves together the timelines of the events that made these men legends.

The “mountain men” were the hunters and trappers who fiercely strode the Rocky Mountains in the early to mid-1800s. They braved the elements in search of the skins of beavers and other wild animals, to sell or barter for goods. The lifestyle of the mountain men could be harsh, existing as they did among animals, and spending most of their days and nights living and camping out in the great unexplored wilds of the Rockies.

Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. Historia
Dodge City, Kansas, is a place of legend. The town that started as a small military site exploded with the coming of the railroad, cattle drives, eager miners, settlers, and various entrepreneurs passing through to populate the expanding West. Before long Dodge City's streets were lined with saloons and brothels, and its populace was thick with gunmen, horse thieves, and desperadoes of every sort. By the 1870s, Dodge City was known as the most violent and turbulent town in the West.

Thievery and survival soon forced him into the Indian camp, where he began a dangerous adventure that changed his life forever. Set in 1863, the novel follows Lieutenant John Dunbar on a magical journey from the ravages of the Civil War to the far reaches of the imperiled American frontier, a frontier he naively wants to see "before it is gone".

Good book, not so good narrator
This is the first western I've listened to with no southern accent. It was difficult to listen to but the story is good. A good narrator could easily make this book 5 stars.

Inspirational
I've been horseback on many cattle drives, although none as long as depicted in this wonderful book, but I can attest that, "The Log of a Cowboy" is realistic and skillfully describes the fun and hardships of the cattle business.

Publishers Screw up. Again
Hey, to all publishers, AUDIObook. AUDIO should be a key consideration in the selection of the narrator. This is not the first and unfortunately probably not the last Audiobook about Texas or Texans ruined by the narrator. But this one was the most painful to date. I don’t fault the narrator as I’m sure he would be fine for a 1,001 other audiobooks. The fault lies with who selected him and their lack of understanding of the subject.

i didn't like the narrator
I'm sorry but the narrator really destroyed this book for me and I decided to stop long before I reached the end. There were several places and peoples, like the Apache and the Platte, that the author did not know how to pronounce. He pronounced words like cattle and foreman as two words which got really annoying. Since I didn't finish the book, I have to give it one star, which is very rare for me. I'll find a paperback copy and finish reading it that way. I'm very disappointed in this audiobook.
