For nine seasons Rainn Wilson played Dwight Schrute, everyone's favorite work nemesis and beet farmer. Viewers of The Office fell in love with the character and grew to love the actor who played him even more. Rainn founded a website and media company, SoulPancake, that eventually became a best-selling book of the same name. Brandon P. Fleming grew up in an abusive home and was shuffled through school, his passing grades a nod to his skill on the basketball court, not his presence in the classroom. He turned to the streets and drug deals by 14, saved only by the dream of basketball stardom. When he suffered a career-ending injury during his first semester at a Division I school, he dropped out of college, toiling on an assembly line, until depression drove him to the edge. Miraculously, his life was spared. Returning to college, Fleming was determined to reinvent himself as a scholar.

Publisher's Summary
Do you wish you knew how to talk to people about life’s deepest and most sensitive topics? In The Listening Road, you’ll ride along on one man's remarkable 33-day journey cycling 3,000 miles across the United States on a mission to engage with people from all walks of life in real conversations about things that matter most.
As a pastor, Neil Tomba noticed a disturbing trend among people in church: they were finding it increasingly difficult to talk about God to those outside of the church. Neil wanted to practice what he preached, so he set out to bike across the United States, talking - and, more importantly, listening - to strangers from all walks of life about faith, their stories, and matters of the heart.
The Listening Road takes you on Neil’s remarkable journey across the country and straight into its soul - from Route 66 motels to state parks, a lake house, and a railway car; from conversations with Amish farmers to chats with truckers, cowboys, mechanics, and a descendant of Daniel Boone. From one city, farm, and highway to the next, we discover
- practical, actionable ways to change our posture toward others to foster conversation,
- why curiosity, kindness, and respect open up communication about God, and
- how even in a culture of division and antagonism, real connection is possible.
In our polarizing time, Neil models with compassion and curiosity that genuine connection happens only if we are willing to listen in love.
Includes an audiobook-exclusive track with tips and thoughts on how to begin conversations that may open a pathway to talk about deeper spiritual topics and Jesus. Read by the author.

I really enjoyed this book!
This book is so applicable to so many different areas of one’s life! It could be for Christ followers, teachers children and those in all walks of life! This book has challenged me and I’m grateful for that! Looking forward to the documentary!
Side note: I heard about this book from our church! I originally bought this book to listen to it with my teenage kids in the car during carpools etc. I couldn’t wait to continue listening so I finished it without them and will go back and listen again with them! ❤️

Thought provoking!
I have worked in an evangelical church for over 20 years. For most of my time, I have been taught and encouraged to speak the truth to those who don’t agree with me. It was always to “help” those who did not believe in Jesus. However, there have been times in my early years where this came at a cost, “get the message across, and forget to listen”. Neil Tomba challenges that! Listen first! Find connections! It is real life examples of looking to find common ground, speaking love and even bringing up Jesus, without forcing anyone towards a decision. It is trusting God with that person’s future. This is a great read (listen) and I recommend it to anyone who wants to be challenged.

Who does Jesus love? The stranger who looks strange. The driver who cuts us off in traffic. The person online who thinks differently than we do. Loving people is hard. Especially when it involves the difficult people in our lives and those different from us. We say we love others, but really we don’t. Instead of loving, we hurt, belittle, and overlook people. Which is precisely why we need to learn how to love — from Jesus and from one another.

Story
If you’re anything like Sophie Hudson, your initial reaction to the hard stuff - the pieces and parts of life that keep you up at night, relentlessly reminding you that the “simple and easy” path is somehow a turn you must’ve missed along the way - is to try to figure out how to make it go away. You might wonder if it’s possible to just ignore it, or, better yet, to burn it all down. But what Sophie found during a particularly difficult stretch is that the Lord, through his word and his people, faithfully reveals how to get up, straighten up, and stand all the way up.

Story
At 23, Andrew Forsthoefel headed out the back door of his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, with a backpack, an audio recorder, his copies of Whitman and Rilke, and a sign that read "Walking to Listen". He had just graduated from Middlebury College and was ready to begin his adult life, but he didn't know how. So he decided to take a cross-country quest for guidance, one where everyone he met would be his guide. In the year that followed, he faced an Appalachian winter and a Mojave summer. He met beasts inside: fear, loneliness, doubt.

The two are now close as brothers, choosing to be next-door neighbors, and ripped out the fence between their homes as a testament to the power of the gospel to break down barriers and unite people together in Christ.
