Publisher's Summary

An intense look at the rules of high school attraction - and the price that's paid for them. It happens every year. A list is posted, and one girl from each grade is chosen as the prettiest, and another is chosen as the ugliest. Nobody knows who makes the list. It almost doesn't matter. The damage is done the minute it goes up.This is the story of eight girls, freshman to senior, "pretty" and "ugly." And it's also the story of how we see ourselves, and how other people see us, and the tangled connection of the two.

Engaging and Entertaining

I loved The List – a story of eight teenage girls, four named the prettiest in their school and four named the ugliest who have to come to terms with both how they see themselves and how others see them.

The List manages to follow not one but EIGHT different characters all with more depth, poignancy and intricacy then most YA books with a single bland heroine manage.

Every girl has her own unique story and every one somehow manages to get their due in what is a pretty succinct book.

The outcast who wears the UGLY label as a badge of honour for all the wrong reasons.

The popular girl whose attempts to overcome an eating disorder are put into jeopardy when the PRETTY label validates her negative behaviour.

The beautiful cheerleader labelled UGLY, not for what is on her outside but on her inside.

The quiet home-schooled girl suddenly in the spotlight now that she is PRETTY.

I’m amazed she managed to fit so many well-done stories into a single narrative!

I would have liked a little more wrap-up and I’ve have happily read even more from the girls but it was a rare satisfying stand-alone read!

I think this is would be a stellar teenage read but I’ve seen some parents complain about the sex, alcohol and language in other reviews. I personally think it was all handled incredibly well – not preachy, nor exploitive just eerily relatable. Maybe a little too accurate for some?

Still I think the messages of empowerment and acceptance makes The List more than worth a read for teen girls. Older reads though, can definitely enjoy the incredibly well drawn characters too so I highly recommend the list to everyone!

Really Good.. but the ending?

The performance was perfect! I enjoyed all of the characters. I just felt that the ending didn't wrap everything. I was left with questions and didn't feel satisfied with the conclusion.

Character Development Lacking

I wanted to enjoy this book but I found myself lacking concern for the characters. I was not invested in any of them. Maybe if each character was a bit more developed then I would have cared more.

Worst ending of all time

This book feels like a lot of set up with no real ending. Lots of potential for life lesson but ultimately fails to follow through.

And then it ended...

The actual story itself was great but I was very disappointed by the ending, it just kind of ended and I felt like there was still bits the needed to be said or at least tied up. As well the reader did do a good job but the male voices were not the best.

I feel like.....

I feel like THERE WAS SO MUCH LEFT UNEXPLAINED!! The book was really REALLY GOOD!! I JUST WISH THERE WAS MORE....MORE OF AN ENDING THAT WRAPS IT ALL UP NICELY!!! UNLESS THERE IS A BOOK #2

The list

This audio book was really good. Some parts were funny and some were sad, even irritating. But I loved it.

Great book but.......

It talks a lot about inner beauty mostly with Sarah. I love this book but it took me a while to get through it. While it is a great book it isn’t one you can’t put down. It is not for young readers by a long shot. I would wait till junior high before reading because of language. I am not saying I didn’t like the book but I’m not rereading it any time soon........
But again it is a wonderful book that talks about a lot of tough topics.

Wtf ending

Good story but the ending was stupid. I was very invested in the story and to have it end so quickly was a major let down. I am not saying things need a cookie cutter ending but the majority of issues are not resolved. In fact looking back at it only the ugly girls stories get even a little wrapped up which just blows because they are only half the equation

Great concept, well written.

Would you listen to The List again? Why?

I would of course listen to 'The List' again is it a well written book that takes you through the thoughts of 8 girls who are named on the list, it tells the stores behind each girl how then ended up on the list and the effect it has good and bad.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The List?

Memorable moment it the book would be the reactions of the girls, towards the list at bringing and end of the book, and the effect a simple stamped piece of paper with one persons opinion, it has on there lives.

What about Allison McLemore’s performance did you like?

she was great with voices for each character and portrayed then different from each other keep it wast to remember who was who especially with the seperated chapter of each character.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

for me it was the whole books ability to channelled how these girls would of felt, being names on a list of this kind, especially the way teenage girls mind work, and the inside turmoil that can be caused by a list of this kind.

Any additional comments?

A great teen read and really gets in the mind of teenage girls.

Great book

It hooks you right from the start and guides you from different views and although getting used to names and connections takes a little while it's worth it! With a small twist to get your mind clicking!

The List Review

Where does The List rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The list is the first fictional book I've read, I really enjoyed it and will be reading more fiction on audible.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character was Bridgette because she had the best story and has to overcome the biggest problems.

What about Allison McLemore’s performance did you like?

I really enjoyed how Allison didn't make silly voices for each characters and her voice was perfect for the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book in more than one sitting but only because it was over seven hours long, if I could I would probably listen to it in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I think everyone should try this book because the preview and blurb don't live up to how good the book is!

Gripping 😍

I love this story so much❤️
I was quite peed off at the cliff hanger though, I would have really liked to find out more of what happened next.
But still this shows the real struggle of teenagers in high school 👏

Brilliant book, horrible ending

Okay, so I know the title of this review makes it seem as if I didn't like the book so much, but really, this was a brilliant book, which tackled a lot of issues that Young people have to tackle today. To be honest, there were a few relatable characters for me in the book, which is pretty rare I find, me being such an odd ball. But I adored the book. My only pet hate is the ending. Why the cliffhanger!!! Okay, so I can get why the author put the cliffhanger there, but still, it just made me so sad and kind of angry. I wish there was more, and there were so many characters I wanted to know more about and what happened to them all after the homecoming dance, especially Jennifer. Jennifer is ending was really unsatisfactory for me, but I can appreciate why the ending was like that, the book is meant to show the consequences of labelling and the pressures upon young girl today, and not to give us a Disney happy ending, but still, it just… overall though, I loved the book. I read it a few years ago and loved it, and this is my second time reading it, and it's still going strong for me.

Short and entertaining

it's a little slow but it a decent listen to turn off. Definitely not my fav, it was a little over the top with the girly drama
