Publisher's Summary

Millions love the hit television show Vikings - but how many fans know that its main character, Ragnar, is based on an actual Viking king whose ambitious and terrifying exploits have been legend since the ninth century?

The Legend of Ragnar Lothbrok presents fascinating new translations of ninth, 12th, and 13th-century writings - including sagas, poems, and historical accounts - that describe, in vivid detail, the adventures of Ragnar, his sons, and his formidable wives, Lagertha the Shieldmaiden and Princess Aslaug.

Sages of Ragnar

I really enjoyed hearing the Norwegian words pronounced correctly and the energy the reader offered. If you are a Vikings Fan and a Ragnar lover you will really enjoy the sages as well as how the actual show Vikings got their material

Horrible

Horribly written, nothing like the real Norse mythology of Ragnar. Just a bad book, characters are out of order etc. Can't even finish the book and it's only 4 hours. What a waste!

Hard to get into

This had a lot of interesting information, but how it was presented and the complexity/confusion/seeking contradictions of the material made it hard to follow. Especially while driving and listening to the audio book. This might have been better if I had physically read to and could go back and forth to check my facts.

unnecessarily repeated events

alot of the Material was repeated 3-4x through the book. half was about Ragnars sons. not of Ragnar himself. meh overall.

Just average

Content was presented in a messy fashion, not well composed and made it difficult at some points to follow. The book has some good info but not the best I've heard.

3 versions of the same stories

is very good but comes down to repeats of the same stories with conflicting facts. shows how unreliable some old sources are

Interesting with great detail

I felt the book was particularly good in the first half. The 2nd half was a little confusing at times but still great details. made go back and watch the Vikings series, listening closely to the sub dialogues
