Publisher's summary

The Last Emperox is the thrilling conclusion to the award-winning, New York Times and USA Today best-selling Interdependency series, an epic space opera adventure from Hugo Award-winning author John Scalzi.

The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated. Entire star systems - and billions of people - are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization. This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction...and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known.

Emperox Grayland II has finally wrested control of her empire from those who oppose her and who deny the reality of this collapse. But "control" is a slippery thing, and even as Grayland strives to save as many of her people form impoverished isolation, the forces opposing her rule will make a final, desperate push to topple her from her throne and power, by any means necessary. Grayland and her thinning list of allies must use every tool at their disposal to save themselves, and all of humanity. And yet it may not be enough.

Will Grayland become the savior of her civilization...or the last emperox to wear the crown?

An Engrossing Finale with a Few Missteps

A thoroughly engrossing final act to Scalzi's Interdependency trilogy. While the actual ending left me wanting, the journey to get there was nothing if not fun. My main issue stems from how competent Scalzi showed his three protagonists to be in previous volumes, and thus he had to give his villains a lot more credit than they deserved. So much so that, at times, credulity was strained. Additionally, Wheaton has improved as a narrator. He is still inconsistent between characters (particularly between novels), but other than the central three, there seems to be more of an effort made on his part to create vocal identities. All that said, it was a pleasure to be back in the company of Cardenia, Marce, and Kiva.

Great series, sorry it ended.

I really enjoyed this series. I was sorry that it had to end. Maybe there will be more stories from the Interdependency. See what Earth's been up too.

A great finish to the Collapsing Empire Trilogy.

Excellent narration by Wil Wheaton. Scalzi has built an interesting universe with very colorful characters.

Entertaining

It was definitely an entertaining book and finale to the trilogy, but everything was summed up too quickly at the end. The story took too long to work up a head of steam. Then it seemed like too many tangent plot points were introduced in the middle of the book that didn't really go anywhere. Wil Wheaton was an excellent narrator yet again. He definitely gave the characters of the book substance.

Rushed Ending

Overall a good trilogy. This last one seemed a bit rushed at the end. Kind of a letdown. Will Wheaton was remarkable as narrator
