Publisher's Summary

At 17, Layla Weston is already starting over. Having lost both her parents and grandparents, and with nowhere else to go, Layla is moving from Florida to a small town in North Carolina to live with the only family she has left: her estranged uncle and aunt. The last five years of Layla’s life were spent appeasing her lessthan-loving grandmother, followed by being her grandfather’s caretaker. Growing old before her time, Layla lost her identity. Now she must learn how to allow herself to be the one who is cared for and loved. Life takes an unexpected turn when Layla meets Will Meyer. His breathtaking good looks are enough to catch her eye, but his sincerity and passion are everything she needs to find the strength and confidence she lost - and lead her into love. When tragedy once again strikes Layla’s life, her hope is all but completely crushed. Through it all, Layla learns what it means to truly love and be loved.

Emotional Rollercoaster

Extremely impressed with the story and the character build up. I was in knots when Will and Layla were having relationship issues and Will couldn't communicate properly without putting Layla in danger.

Nice beginning

Abrupt ending. This is a nice story about teens coming of age. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Good listen

I think the story in itself was good. I did enjoy it. Although I pretty much predicted some outcomes, I was surprised by the twist at the end. I do feel like for what little story was told, it was drawn out way to long in one book! And now there’s three more books to read just find out what happens. Also there wasn’t much of an ending. I was disappointed with that. But overall, I liked it and am interested in finding out what happens, so I will be purchasing the next book. I think it’s a good read or listen for any age, but especially for the younger audience.

Well written and worthwhile listen

This story is incredibly well written. The narrator provides a depth to the characters that only enhances the story. I loved this book and found the entire series thoughtful, well written, and well developed. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Grant's work.

very good series

Would you listen to The Lake again? Why?

no I usually only read books once and move on to another

Any additional comments?

I loved all 3 books in this series. I enjoy reading but really like listening when I am able to walk and enjoy exercising. I love the fact I can read multiple books with the same characters and continue the journey with them.

meh

Good writing style, but I didnt fall in love with the characters or plot like I had anticipated. The romance seemed too rushed and her integration to the clique too seamless. The self loathing of her character was portrayed well, but the author's attempt to make the heroine appear strong and courageous was weak. I found myself often bored, and will not be reading the next novel.

good listening

Wanted to buy the next book right away.. I personally thought there was a lot of over analysing but I guess that goes with teenage angst.

Good story line, but very repetitious

Where does The Lake rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is for the younger reader. It was very repetitious. I would rank it in the bottom half of audiobooks I've listend to so far.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Didn't really feel that there was an ending. It was almost like the chapter ended and if you wanted an ending, you had to read the next book.

Which scene was your favorite?

Layla calling her guardians aunt & uncle

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Young love conquers all
