The fifth Ryan Lock novel from best-selling author Sean Black. When college basketball coach Malik Shaw goes missing after a family tragedy, it looks like just another retired athlete gone off the rails. But Malik's childhood friend, private security specialist Ty Johnson, quickly begins to suspect that there is more to it. Chasing the truth, Ty and his business partner, Ryan Lock, begin to uncover a sinister conspiracy of silence in a sleepy Minnesota college town.

The Ryan Lock series has been translated into Dutch, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish and has featured on a number of best seller lists.

I liked the characters, Ty, Locke, and Malik. Backgrounds were interesting and unusual. The first two-thirds of the book were very good but last third lagged in the capture of the killer.

Will definitely read another before a final judgment.

Mysteries are among my favorite genres of fiction. When I first started listening to this book for some reason I had the sense that it was going to be predictable but it certainly wasn't. I recommend it highly not only because it's a good mystery and well written but because it raised awareness of how people take terrible situations and use them for their monetary gain. It also brought out how shallow some public displays of sadness can be which though an avenue for expressing grief and outrage sometimes allow people who ignored warning signs that something is wrong to feel better.

When a college basketball coach in a small Minnesota town discovers a pedophile ring and tries to bring it to light, the trouble that follows for him is devastating. By the time we get to the bottom of it many people die. Ty and Ryan come to town to help, and things get interesting. Sean Black is one of my new favorites. Each story seems to stand well on its own. I’ve read #1 and #5 so far and haven’t had any problems following. I’ll be looking for more in this series. 5 stars.
