It is an ordinary September morning when I nearly lose my little girl. My mouth is dry, my hands shake when I see that she has darted unexpectedly into the playground.... The place where my own childhood ended. Where I can’t set foot inside. As she wobbles on top of the climbing frame about to fall, a silent scream freezes in my throat. So when a stranger hears her cries and rushes to help, I feel weak with relief. I thank him as my daughter presses her tear-stained face into my skirt. Looking into his warm brown eyes and gentle smile, I feel an instant connection.

Publisher's summary
She was lying still, almost as white as the chalk of the cave, the angel wings she was wearing crushed beneath her back. Her head was turned towards the crying baby sitting nearby as if she wanted to comfort her. But her wide blue eyes were unseeing....
When Detective Lexi Bennett is called to the scene, what she sees makes her heart clench. A young woman in angel wings lies dead, her eyes still fixed on her sobbing child. What kind of monster would leave a baby motherless and alone in the dark? Lexi promises herself she will catch the brutal killer who stole Bethany’s future.
The body was found in the caves beneath Elvington vineyard. At first Lexi can find no connection with Bethany...until the owner reveals he is the father of her child. Could he have killed her to claim custody? Or did his jealous wife murder her rival?
But when another woman is found dead amongst the vines, wearing angel wings, her baby crawling nearby, Lexi is certain the killer is fulfilling a deeply personal ritual. In order to stop him, she will have to understand him.
Under pressure to arrest the obvious suspect and out on a limb, Lexi digs deep into the past to uncover where all this began. And when she’s attacked, she knows she’s on the right track. But the killer already has his next victim in his sights...and Lexi will have to risk everything to stop him.
For fans of Angela Marsons, Karin Slaughter, and Val McDermid, The Innocent Angels will keep you hooked to the final shocking reveal.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.
