Thirteen years have passed since the Medusa plague wiped out nearly 99 percent of the world’s population and pushed humanity to the brink of extinction. After an exchange student with bubonic plague turns up in a Reno hospital, a contractor with identical symptoms dies in Los Angeles. The death toll is too high, and the spread pattern make no sense. As Reno’s hospitals fill with victims, Mack begins to believe that there is more to the epidemic than the CDC is letting on - and that he must take drastic steps if he hopes to save his city.

What started as a flu outbreak on a military base proves deadlier than Ebola. Sympatico Syndrome is unlike anything the world has ever seen. Victims' behavior is changing to accommodate the rapid spread of the virus. Former Navy epidemiologist Cole Evans is well aware of the rare, infectious diseases the military studies. He also knows the government's stance on sharing information with the public, so if the media has already learned about the disease, then it's too late to contain the outbreak.

Story
The Alt Apocalypse is the ground-breaking, genre-bending series from Tom Abrahams. It explores survival under the most extreme circumstances, but with a twist (and no cliff-hangers). This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. But every book dunks them into a new, alternate apocalypse; a nuclear holocaust, an earthquake, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a plague, and even zombies.

When a viral apocalypse kills 97 percent of the people on the planet, the survivors' humanity is hanging by a thread. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. The survivors he seems to collect become family, and that is very bad news for those who think they run the apocalypse.

Poorly conceived & predictable
The protagonist is oddly a horrible dad, loner facing medical board problems who suddenly becomes a leader without cause. Few characters are developed and none well. Only black character is a homicidal maniac. Brutal depiction of everyone being either godless, spiritually naive or rejection of previous faith with “FY to God” used several times. Authors less than subtle atheism continues oddly with numerous “GD” and sarcastic references to Christianity or belief in general. Descriptions are glossed over for larger pictures but the books overflow with painfully laborious metaphors. Just about every scene is predictable based on author somehow seeing himself in the protagonist. The book actually would have been better had the idiot doctor stayed true to his character... man of weak character who is not heroic and a relational failure. And amazingly protagonist goes from being totally unable to hold a gun to magically (we are not told otherwise) quick draw & outshooting two different men with gun experience. Hmmmm. This genre deserves much better.

Good story, Average narration.
I just recently started listening to post apocalyptic books. I thought this was an interesting take on the genre. There's no mystery to how the plague start or what the cause is. I liked that aspect of the story, I found the characters interesting and pretty well developed.
The narration was pretty average. It wasn't bad, I'm just used to narrators putting a little more effort into different character voices. It felt like he was reading the book not performing it.
All-in-all I'd say The Immune is worth a listen.

Great Omnibus!!!
I was initially concerned the book would be too long to hold my attention.
I was wrong.
Kazzie writes a masterpiece about a man (Adam Fisher) emerges into a world where most of it's inhabitants are dead by a virus. Over the next 16 hours (audiobook) he comes across all sorts of survivors like himself who are immune. The book is told like a journal, as his almost daily exploits are narrated.
Kazzie does a good job explaining this new world, where thereats are around almost every corner. It makes you feel as though you are there. You feel for Adam's pain. In this masterpiece something's villains come out of nowhere.
Lee Goettl narrates this gem. Some critics didn't like his style. I found no problem with his technique.
Great job all around!

Awful narration, passable story.
Ignoring the medically dubious bits, the story at least moves along. Plenty of the cliched coincidences, ragtag bunch of survivors just so happens to find the right kind of doctor and the right kind of stuff. Harmless enough.
The narrator really lets it all down, he has this weird cadence and to al inflection that makes every sentence a struggle to listen to.
If this wasn’t the full 4 book set it would be thievery.
