Publisher's summary

When Dr. Will Freeman, a struggling, widowed university professor, is laid off from his position at the local university, his life begins to take a sharp downward spiral. A reprieve comes in the form of a one-foot-long claw that is proffered to him, along with a substantial amount of money and an offer to join a team in search of the creature to which the claw may belong.

With nothing to lose and everything to gain, he accepts the invitation to join the expedition to the Canadian Arctic. The team travels in search of a creature that might or might not exist, and they soon discover the ice shelf they are on has many mysteries to be revealed, both ancient and lethal.

Discover this land of ice and biting cold, where man is not the dominant species on the food chain and where what seems obvious is anything but. In this heart-pounding, gut-wrenching, pause-resisting adventure, journey to a place where survival of the fittest is not only an old adage but an absolute, real fight for life.

struggled to finish

what happened in the book.... briefly snow monkeys, wolves, polar bears, lots of characters who die, global warming(sorta), ice, ice caves, ice tunnels, ice mountains, snow mobiles, fog, hidden entrances and exits, oh and red eyes.
What did I think of it without spilling the beans.
I am sure some will love it but I couldn't get into it. I had to keep rewinding. Because I would find an hour gone(the book isn't even very long) and I had no idea what was said. that happened numerous times. I finally gave up, and let it finish. the author had too many characters and stories happening at once. it helped as he killed them off, but then he added more (who he killed off as well). maybe he couldn't even keep up with them. he was trying to add global warming into it but that was even confusing. I am not completely sure what happened and I have no desire to even try. I wouldn't recommend this book. there are so many fantastically written books that this one doesn't need to take your time. if your like me. I am sure you will think it can't be that bad and listen anyway. if so I hope you will be one who enjoys it.

terrible reader

good story but reader used no contractions and sounded like he was reading a child's story. which it obviously wasn't.
