I've just finished this book and while they were all great stories, I just want to give special attention to Mr. Riordan's son for the Son of Magic story. I'm a huge Percy Jackson fan (as and ADHD kid and now adult myself, they make me feel seen in a way that other books just don't.) But... WOW! Alabaster's story is so well written and beautifully pulls the dark side of this world into focus. I would 100% read an entire series just about Alabaster and his companion. The magic is so cool, and the nuances are so beautifully described. I genuinely feel for both the main characters and the villain. You really see how both sides (titans and the gods) can be evil in their own way. Absolutely incredible. It may be my favorite story in the entire series. And that's saying something!

The Son of Magic is AMAZING!

I really liked this book the last chapter was amazing we could have even had Riordans son read it? The book was a bit short though

when to add this book into the series is better defined in the opening from the author. each chapter/short story could be read at a different spot in the Olympian series or all at once at the end like I did. it fills in some unintentional gaps and answers some basic questions created throughout the series. but can also be read as a stand alone after the persey Jackson book series or movie. it does a good job of rounding out the authors universe.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This comment applies to audiobooks in general: I enjoy how both reading a book and hearing it narrated can result in getting two different stories from the same book. I'm not really talking about the "voices" that narrators use for each character. I'm talking about when a narrator puts emphasis on different words or uses different emotion for a line of dialogue than the way I imagined it when I read the book. I am especially intrigued when I understand a scene I read in a book in a certain way, and then I discover a completely different way to interpret the same scene when I hear to performed by a narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! I had expected to be just as entranced by these short stories as I was with the books, and I was not disappointed.

Any additional comments?

I usually only get one audible a month, but as soon as I finished The Lightening Thief, I started on Sea of Monsters. I spent just about every spare moment listening to the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series followed by the Heroes of Olympus series. Before I knew it, I had finished The House of Hades. My friends may be happy about it because my self-imposed isolation is now over (I was so engrossed in the stories that I basically cut myself off from the world for the span of the 9 books), but I still wanted something to tide me over until The Blood of Olympus is released. The Demigod Diaries is a wonderful addition to Riordan's world of demigods. These short stories have the same excitement and heart that made me fall in love with the books. The stories allow readers to better understand some characters, learn what happened to others, and give us a peak into a "normal day" in the life of a demigod. It's hard to imagine any fan of the series not loving this book and its additional glimpses into the world Rick Riordan has created.
