Publisher's Summary

Dear Listener, Ryder Sherbrooke is a fun-loving rake with a secret. When he travels to Jamaica to solve the mystery of the supernatural goings-on at the Sherbrooke sugar plantation, he finds another mystery as well - a sophisticated 19-year-old girl, Sophia Stanton-Greville, who wants to bed him. And not, he believes, because she is simply enthralled with his handsome self or his boundless charm. Sophia has successfully controlled every man in her orbit until she meets Ryder Sherbrooke, a man she knows immediately is different from the others, a man she sees as one of hell's own sons. Ryder, confident as only a successful rake can be when it comes to knowing women, sets out to teach her who is in charge. It's said she already has three lovers. Is she indeed the outrageous tease she appears? A seductress? Or is she an innocent with an ugly and terrifying secret? As to Ryder's secret, you will see. You will also meet Douglas and Alexandra Sherbrooke from The Sherbrooke Bride; Sinjun Sherbrooke; and the Virgin Bride. The Heiress Bride will feature Sinjun Sherbrooke and Colin Kinross, an impoverished Scottish earl, who does his best to sink the unsinkable Sinjun. --Catherine Coulter

Coulter is excellent at portraying romantic tension between her heroes and heroines. ( Milwaukee Journal)

Surprised!

Wow. When I read the review of this book, I was not sure that I would purchase it. However, since I like the author, I decided to give it a go. I am very glad that I did. It was very much in the CC style, but beyond that it was better in that it had a unique twist! However, if you don't want sexual content (although not explicit) don't read this.

Kindly "MASTER" and happy slaves . . . yeah right

Does anyone really believe that women slaves had a choice but to be raped by their masters? What wonderful choices they had, work in the blistering hot fields of Jamaica from sun up to sun down while being whipped if you paused to long; eat the leftover garbage from "Masters" tables; sleep in dilapidated huts while being eating up by mosquito's or scrub floors, empty chamber pots, get smacked around by the lady of the house because she blames you for her husbands infidelity and then at night become the "Master's" sex slave so that the "outside slaves" can look at you with disgust! I am shocked that a women wrote this book by the way that she tried to portray the women slaves as being happy with their lot in life or being happy to being used as prostitutes! Shame on you Catherine Coulter!!

Ryder's story

Interesting, mysterious, and heart rending all at once. It is nice yo have the women as the heroes.

Another slow moving book

Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and/or Anne Flosnik?

I will try a modern romance by Coulter, if this author writes them, before I give up. After the first 2 books in the series I'm done.

What could Catherine Coulter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The men could be a little less dominating, and the women could be more assertive. It's probably a very good portrayal of how men and women interacted in the early 18th century. But for me it's a romance and like a little unrealistic-ness in it.

Would you be willing to try another one of Anne Flosnik’s performances?

I've listen to Anne before and her performance was fine.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment definitely.

Any additional comments?

Personally for me there were too many sexual scenes in this book. And Sophie's lack of knowledge about sexual pleasure was unrealistic based on her harlot portrayal in the book.

Not her best work, not worth even on sale

Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and/or Anne Flosnik?

I would try another Catherine Coulter because I have read a couple that were good. This was not. The whole thing was about using a ghost to have sex with men so the main character wouldn't have to, convoluted too. Her rescuer, prince charming tricks her into marriage and repeatedly forces her to have sex.

Has The Hellion Bride turned you off from other books in this genre?

I will read the plot and reviews more thoroughly.

Would you be willing to try another one of Anne Flosnik’s performances?

No, her voice was somewhat shrill for me and she did not differentiate between characters enough.

What character would you cut from The Hellion Bride?

I am not sure, the majority were not like able and somewhat evil. The best character was a very minor character, Sinjin.

poor narrator!

Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and/or Anne Flosnik?

I would read another book from Catherine Coulter BUT I will not listen to another book read by Anne Flosnik. At some point in the story, I had no idea who was talking. They all sound the same!! Sophie sounded like Ryder most of the time! They all sound like they smoke a pack of cigarette a day! It's too sad. I was so disappointed. It was so hard to finish the book but I didn't want to waste my money. Besides, the story was good but the narrator sucks.

Would you be willing to try another book from Catherine Coulter? Why or why not?

Yes, she writes really good story. Dragged on a bit at the beginning but once the story gets flowing, it's speeds on.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Anne Flosnik?

Always Rosalyn Landor. She is the best! She makes the best male voices. I don't know how she does it but she's great! I love her!

I love the way Catherine Coulter makes the characters come to life.. The most memorable moments for me are the dialogue between Sophie and Ryder

Which scene was your favorite?

The Scene at the end when Charles Grammond's wife shows up at the meeting at the toliver shack.
