A seafaring journey is the second chance for a lady and the last chance for a marquess in a thrilling novel about rebellious love, secrets, and danger by USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell.

Perpetually unattached Lady Cassia McQuoid has accepted her fate as a spinster. But how can she be expected to lead a life confined to drawing rooms and royal balls when there’s a vast, exciting world to explore? Cassia can find but one solution: she masquerades as a thrill-seeking lad and stows away on a ship bound for open waters. Adventure awaits. So does notorious privateer Nathaniel Ellsby.

Nathaniel doesn’t want to be the Duke of Roxburghe. Instead, the second-born son relishes his freedom to do as he pleases: pursuing enemy ships in service of the war effort. But when his older brother dies, Nathaniel embarks on one last mission before he fulfills his ducal duties with an arranged marriage. That’s the intention, at least—until he discovers that his woefully green deckhand is a fetching but vulnerable woman in disguise.

Nathaniel’s new mission is to protect Cassia from the perils of the sea, both above and below the water, by sharing the close confines of the captain’s quarters. As roiling emotions turn to love, Nathaniel and Cassia realize the greatest risks—to the Crown, to their futures, and to the heart—still lie ahead.

Critic reviews

“Prolific narrator Timothy Campbell lends his talents to Caldwell's latest historical romance (following A Duke Alone).… With his skill with accents and realistic character voices, Campbell once more delivers an enjoyable performance, deftly capturing Cassia's insecurities under her mask of self-assurance and Nathaniel's exasperation at his parents' intrusion in his love life and the headstrong stowaway. An enticing production sure to delight listeners.”Library Journal

“Cassia and Nathan’s passionate romance will captivate readers. This is a winner.”Publishers Weekly (starred review)

“Caldwell creates a delightful Regency romp filled with crackling dialog and steamy love scenes....A fun, fast read for those looking for a satisfying escape.”Historical Novels Review

I laughed out loud in places and enjoyed the snappy dialogue. The narrator did a wonderful job and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fun story and great narrator

Why did she cry so much? Couldn't finish the book. Still a fan of Christi Caldwell.

Can't stand Cassia.

I don’t think she was childish, she’d never been on a ship before so , how could she know what was going on. The captain was just so rude and sweet at times. The end was adorable, so romantic. 10 stares

The story was wonderful

Christi Caldwell writes a great historical romance book. The hero's and heroines are as compelling as you hope for when reading this genre of a novel...then, there's the narrator Tim Campbell..who's glorious voice is transportive. This book is a great listen!!

Two words...Tim Campbell!

I have enjoyed many of Crhisti Caldwell's books, but found this one annoying. Lady McQuoid is so annoying I am debating whether I should waste my time to continue listening. As it is, I am yelling back at the recording asking the woman to "Shut UP," which is exceedingly rude but definitely warranted. NO ONE can be this clueless.

For a character who is interested in "seeing some of the world," she is disrespectful of thoughts, beliefs, and, yes, supersitions of those who are different than she. Frustrating.
