Publisher's Summary

After a botched raid in Afghanistan, ex-army specialist Michel Deverroux returned to Galveston, Texas, with more baggage than intended. Without family, friends, or money, Michel turned to drugs to relieve the horrors of war. He knew it was a dark path, but he saw no other choice. Michel was awash in a world of numbness and addiction until his estranged uncle Andy died, leaving Michel a rundown beach front home and a hefty inheritance.

With something to finally call his own in the world, a spark of hope returns to Michel's life - a spark that is ignited when he sees a somber yet beautiful woman walking along the beach. Michel falls instantly in love with her and nicknames her his "Mermaid". Now, determined to be a man that his new love would want to be with, Michel vows to turn his life around and win over his "Mermaid", Annabelle. Overcoming the shadows of his past seems nearly impossible, but the drive to have Annabelle gives Michel the motivation to overcome his demons.

Short and simple

DC Cole does a great job narrating this one. I was expecting something different from this story from beginning chapters. But, it was a short, simple listen.

love that heart

What I really loved about this book is that even though it deals with many issues faced by veterans, it doesn't focus on them but more on the journey and recovery, making it a positive book, that there is hope. I love Michel, his good heart, his character and my heart was breaking reading about his life and his struggles, but he made it, he turned his life around with the help from his uncle who was there for him even after his death. Meeting Annabelle furthered his resolve and at the same time helped heal her heart too. She is perfect for him. This book left me smiling, especially the end, a little teary too.
Being told by one of my 'eargasm' voices really enhanced the experience. I love Mr. Cole's voice and his ability to make it fit the character, the passion for his craft really shows in the performance.

Sweet romance

This was a story that went through many of my emotions because of when Michele got out of the military and all the things he went through. I enjoyed how he was able to change his ledge around and find happiness. This was a sweet romantic story and I thought the narrator did a great job.

Holy Hotness, DC Cole is outstanding

First I must give props to a new to me narrator DC Cole, how have I not listened to him before? Seriously, i'm am going to be searching out more books he's narrated.

This is a quick listen, perfect for an afternoon which I appreciated since i'd just completed a 20+ hour book and I needed a change of pace. This is a story of a broken hero suffering with PTSD and addiction in a post military life. The broken former solider finds healing in this quick listen.

Heartwarming

A man coming back from war who has seen and done some bad things trying to get his life on track meets the love of his life while she is walking the beach by his house. Great story and I am a sucker for an HEA.

Sweet sexy romance!

Michel was a broken soldier returning from Afghanistan with no where to call home. When his Uncle passed away , leaving him a substantial inheritance and a beach house. As he enjoyed the beach, he saw a beautiful , sad but lonely woman by herself. He called her a Mermaid. Annabelle worked in her fathers store where Michel met her. Their frendship blossomed into love! D C Cole's smooth, sexy voice, brought this story to life! I was gifted this audio for my honest review! I recommend this story!

Loved it!

This book was a romance but it was also about redemption. There were no bad guys lurking in the background with plans for nefarious deeds. It was simply humans being humans and dealing with the consequences. Life.

Michael, the bad boy in question, was worthy and in need of redemption. He got it with Annabelle, his insta-attraction. She too was in need of redemption. They found each other and this incredibly sweet story, even with its dark undertones, gave birth to a very happy ending. Loved it.

DC Cole, who is fast becoming one of my favorite narrators, delivered in his usual swoon-worthy fashion. All in all, a great listen.

Michel and Annabelle!

Michel still bears the emotional scars of serving in Afghanistan and is trying to adjust to civilian life. When his uncle passes away he finds out that he has inherited a house and hopes that this is the new beginning he needs.

When he walks into one of the shops in town he is surprised to see the woman that he has seen taking her nightly walks on the beach. She has a painful past of her own but will they be able to heal each other?

This is an emotional story about love, healing and new beginnings. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life.

Grabs your heart.

This book grabs your heart from the beginning. You feel Michels struggles from Afghanistan to home and how he overcomes his past. I love the characters and how well they communicate. This has a good ending and good narration.
