Marianne Williamson
With the publication of The Healing of America, Marianne Williamson becomes a powerful voice for social conscience in American society. While citing the virtual abandonment of social justice as a dominant political theme since the 1960's, Williamson notes historian Arthur Schlesinger's contention that Americans express renewed political interest every thirty years. This is a time, according to Williamson, for Americans to once again return to first principles -- political and spiritual. In this landmark work, Williamson draws plans for the transformation of American political consciousness and the re-emergence of powerful citizen involvement in a genuine healing of American society.
According to Williamson, we need a new paradigm of political understanding, a moral commitment to express it, and a new kind of activism to bring it forth. The Healing of America is a blueprint for all three.©1997 Marianne Williamson; (P)2008 Simon and Schuster, Inc.

What did you love best about The Healing of America?
This book highlights the egregious dysfunction that characterizes the economics of healthcare in the USA as of today. If you are wondering why healthcare is so insanely expensive, this book is a good primer. It discusses the pharmaceutical, medical device and hospital "industries" as they struggle to capture every dollar they are able from the American consumer of healthcare. Medical expenses are the largest single cause of personal bankruptcy in America. These industries will pursue every dollar they are able until the entire system collapses. The author often boils societal problems down to a lack of spirituality, without delving further, which may not be everyone's fancy.
Do not confuse this book with T.R. Reid's - The Healing of America.
