USA Today Best-Selling Series!

Just because she can see the dead doesn't mean Verity Long wants to spend her days hunting ghosts. Instead she's over the moon to land a marketing job at the local bank...until she finds her new boss dead in the vault. Even her ghost friend, Frankie, knows that's no way to start a career.

Relieved to let the police take charge, Verity steps aside, bound and determined to keep her ghost sightings to herself. But when she learns the main suspect in the murder is a very crooked, very dead mobster, Verity knows it's up to her to solve the case.

She teams up with her ghostly gangster buddy, Frankie, as well as the irresistible and charming Ellis, and the three of them search haunted mob hideouts, hidden passageways, and historic cemeteries for the facts behind the heist of the century - and a modern-day motive for murder.

Too bad uncovering the truth could very well make Verity the next victim....

3 Stars

3 Stars. The Haunted Heist is book 3 in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. This is a cozy mystery told in 1st person POV for main character Verity Long.

The series is about a woman named Verity who unknowingly cleans out a man named Frankie's ashes from an old vase looking jar into her rosebushes and it traps his ghost on her property allowing him to only leave when Verity takes his urn off the property. The ghost, Frankie, shows himself to her and so begins her ability to see ghosts.

In this book, Verity's best friend's Uncle is killed in the vault of the bank he owned. Verity was at the bank when it happened and saw his dead body. Verity, Frankie, and Ellis investigate the murder.

I think I might be starting to get a bit bored with this series. It's not as much fun when there aren't clues along the way and it is just a bunch of stuff happening up until the big reveal at the end. I think at this point I am just enjoying the bits and pieces of Verity and Ellis forming a relationship and holding on for those details that are sprinkled throughout. Oh, I do love the skunk Lucy and love that she has a full name when she is in trouble: Lucille Desiree Long. So cute.

I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed listening to it. The narrator really injects a lot of emotion into her reading and she really sells the suspense and fear. She did a really good job. Her voices were distinct and clear and her pronunciation was good. The audio editing was off in one place in chapter 13 where you could tell that it was pieced together and a word was partially cut off.

So far, I recommend this series but I don't think I will continue to binge it. I am going to try one more and take it from there.

Wild ride

Another great tale from the Verity Long series. Each book gets better and better. I enjoy listening to these books at work, riding in my car. They make me laugh and laugh. I love all the characters and even meeting new ones such as Suds. I look forward to the next adventure.

So far

This is my favorite so far. It seemed to be a little more hopeful, better rhythm and cadence. Seems there are many future options to take the story.

My fav book in series so far 👻🎃

I just can’t get enough of this series and The Haunted Heist is my fav one so far. Tavia’s incredible narration coupled with Angie’s amazing, clever writing make this series truly gold. A must read for any fans of these ladies and for those who love the supernatural. These books have really increased my enjoyment of Halloween this year.

I particularly loved the plot of the heist and additional gangster ghosts in this one. My fav voice is Frankie although that was truly challenged when Handsome Henry and Rosie made an appearance. Such an interesting slew of characters with different, entertaining voices for each of them. I love the frequent referrals to the 1920s and 30s. I really enjoy reading and hearing about that time period.

(Spoilers) As always, these books are action packed and fast paced. I enjoyed Lorelee’s increased presence in this book, she is a charming character with a lovely voice. I felt for her a lot in this book and Verity is quick to help as always. In the first book, I had no clue who the murderer was, in the second, it was my first suspect and in this one, it was my second suspect. I initially thought it was Em. Angie does a great job with groundwork and suspense building. This one also balances comedy and tragedy well.

I truly love the dynamic between Frankie and Verity as well as the slow burn romance between Ellis and Verity. Again, I could take or leave the skunk lol. I loved how the present was connected to a heist that went wrong long ago. It was very clever and cool that Carla tried to frame the ghosts, she had me fooled as well. I did not see the twist with Em coming, very exciting! I hope to see more of hansome Henry and his wacky lover Rosie.

One thing I do notice about these books is that the reveal often lacks details and I’m not sure if we are supposed to fill in the blanks ourselves with the data trickles we receive throughout the books. For instance in this one, it seems like Reggie was up to shady doings in his earlier life and apparently amassed 20 million dollars of ill gotten money which he stashed in his wife’s grave when she died. Was he ever planning on returning for it himself? Or was that symbolic of him shedding his former crooked self and that was his way of disposing of the money for good? Also, did Carla have feelings for Reggie or was she just his crooked protege? I am still unclear on the timeline. Apparently he was going to split dirty money with Carla and Em but when his wife died he decided to turn over a new leaf? That’s my take on what happened. Very exciting stuff!

I think I’m going to keep reading this series even though Halloween is almost over. There is apparently even a christmas one!

A wild ride

I lived this one in the series. Then again, I love all of them. A murder in the bank causes everyone to think that a ghost might be behind it. So much happens and I just can’t wait to hear how everything goes for the bunch!
