Publisher's summary

When a personal trainer and a computer genius are caught in the dark web, there's a lot to fear and a love to fight for in a heart-racing novel by Nancy Herkness, award-winning author of The Money Man.

Dawn Galioto is an expert in self-defense and the most in-demand personal trainer at her Jersey gym - a perfect position for a woman fighting her way out of a troubled past and the anxieties that come with it. Then, after complaints about baffling Wi-Fi glitches at the gym, Dawn calls in disarmingly hot, high-powered computer consultant Leland Rockwell. If she can trust anyone to fix her on-the-job problems, it's Leland. As for healing her off-hours fears, time will tell.

The cybersecurity genius of KRG, Leland sees a lot to admire in Dawn. She's strong, quick-witted, and sexy. And something of a puzzle - one Leland wants very much to solve. If only she'd let him. Every new reveal brings him intimately closer to Dawn, but there's another, more dangerous riddle to decipher. After going undercover to solve her Wi-Fi problem, Leland's found a dark workplace secret. As Dawn's past threatens a burgeoning romance, the deepening mystery they're discovering threatens their lives.

The Hacker

I really liked this one and consumed it in two sittings (which with me being so busy right now was incredible). Dawn has noticed an increased data usage at the gym she works and the customers have been complaining. This is how Leland is brought into the picture to help figure out why and they have such chemistry it cannot be denied. Both of them have demons and each find ways to soothe each other while still bring down the bad guys. This one can be read as a standalone. Intrigue and romance with heat and danger thrown in. Just what makes a great beach read or if you keep it for later it will be great to read in front of a fire this winter (but why wait that long).

Book 2 Much Better

The change in narrator made a HUGE difference. great choice. The writing style didn't change but Maxine makes the 3rd person narration unnoticeable.

The Hacker

When you’ve read the first book in a series you start starving for the second. After finishing the first installment in The Consultants, I couldn’t stand the wait to see what, or who, came next. This book did not disappoint.
I love the story with a bit of danger, a couple characters who have that instant attraction that has the potential for love, sexy times that are put in a way that doesn’t make me blush but does give me the warm fuzzies, and characters that are flawed and have the capacity for change together. This is a story that delivers, as do all of Nancy Herkness’s books.
This is the story of a computer genius and the girl that he’s got a thing for. Maybe. You know, I’m pretty sure he had a thing for her but didn’t come right out and go for it. It was a realization that was unexpected for him, because Leland was a workaholic until he had the chance to spend more time with Dawn.
He helps her. She helps him. There are sexy times. They have emotional growth. There’s a climactic who-dun-it moment. There’s an HEA. Honestly, it exceeded expectations for me! And I had anticipatory exciting expectations for it.

A good way to escape

I enjoyed reading “The Hacker” and wondered how Dawn and Leland would respond to each other as they investigated issues with the network at the gym where Dawn works as a personal trainer. It was a good way to spend downtime when we need to stay at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of 2020.

The Audible recording was good and allows to me rest my eyes at the end of the day.

Maxine Mitchell’s narration was the best part.

This was a very good book. I loved the characters and the connections between all of the friends. But the best part for me was Maxine Mitchell as narrator.

Nancy Herkness

This was a two book series so far. Having to have read and listen to both I have to admit this was my favorite. The characters gave so much chemistry and the storyline was sexy. Thanks

Another heart pumping story

We met personal fitness trainer, Dawn, in book 1, as well as RBG partner and computer wiz, Leland. In this book, Dawn becomes suspicious when clients start complaining about the gym WiFi and their data. She contacts Leland to ask for advice. This leads to more than friends relationship. Both of these individuals have traumatic events in their pasts that have them afraid of lasting relationships. Doesn’t help that there are bad guys after Dawn.
Another steamy romantic suspense that keeps the blood pumping.

Loved this more!

Loved this seemingly opposites attract steamy romance! Overlapping with book 1 and progressing, this is an insta-lust taboo romance with a seriously dangerous mystery. I don't care if it's cliche! When it's good, it's good!
