Publisher's summary

One of the most visited national parks in the country has a dark side.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in the country, with 12.1 million recreational visits in 2020. Aside from crowds of hikers, campers, and general tourists, there's a dark side to the Smokies, the town of Gatlinburg and the surrounding foothills.

From strange disappearances, grisly murders and bone-chilling paranormal hauntings to ghost sightings, this pristine paradise has a lot more to offer than just serene hiking trails or camping.

So put aside your nature guidebooks, forget about the pretty leaves and the relaxing streams, as well as the miniature golf, the funnel cakes and all the other "tourist traps", and prepare for a wild ride on the dark side of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Mysteries in the Great Smoky Mountains

This was the first book in a new series about National Park mysteries and disappearances. This edition features the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and it is full of strange and unusual places and stories. Locations and handy tips are given as well as warnings, while beautiful, it can be a dangerous place. Very enjoyable and entertaining with lots of great local folklore. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. This book now has an audiobook version that is just as entertaining.

Excellent reading

This book is an excellent series of some of the common eerie happenings around the smoky mountains. The reader, for this audiobook manages to convey a sense of being an Appalachian individual, without necessarily identifying, which part of Appalachia he is from. It’s really interesting with this particular book which sites, direct addresses and accurate phone numbers to contact. Should you so choose to use this book as a guide book instead of just hypothetical locations and attempted descriptions.

Good stories strange narration style.

I am obsessed with the NPS stories and I enjoyed the stories, but this narrator has an odd cadence where every time he ends a sentence, it sounds like he’s pushing out a BM. Every time. My ears can’t handle it.

Overall an Interesting Listen

The stories were pretty interesting to hear and I liked that he would give the address of each of the locations he discussed in case someone wanted to visit or learn more.

Worthless - Not a Mystery Book!

Just lore and ads for businesses in National Parks - what a waste of money!
Wish I could get a refund!!

well read and organized stories from the Smokies. I really enjoyed finding the darker side of this alluring location. I'll be on the lookout while I'm there.

Great for short stories

This has no real plot line but if you know the Smokys and the surrounding area it’s interesting to learn some of the lore through this book.

Good stories lose the ads

I couldn’t believe at the end of stories of interesting places that if they were associated w businesses he would give name, address & phone #. I didn’t want to pay to hear adds. Good stories tho
