Publisher's summary

Rivalry, romance, and scandal run hot in this Wicked Wallflowers novel from USA Today bestselling author Christi Caldwell.

Regina (Reggie) Spark has loved Broderick Killoran, the resourceful and protective proprietor of the Devil’s Den, ever since he saved her from the streets and made her his right hand at the notorious gaming hell. For just as long, Reggie has never admitted her true feelings for him. Nor has she revealed her spirited ambitions - to buck convention and expectations and open a music hall.

While Broderick built his gaming empire with ruthless cunning, his loyalty to his employees is boundless. So when he learns of Reggie’s plan to leave his side and take charge of her own future, the betrayal cuts Broderick to the core. He responds as he would to any business rival…with swift retribution.

Instead of wilting, the savvy Reggie rebounds with a fury that shocks Broderick and stirs a desire he’s been holding in reserve for only ladies of nobility. But as their seductive battle of wills ignites under the harsh spotlight of the London Season, secrets are exposed as well - ones that could be ruinous in decent society but invaluable for the heart.

Wonderful! Need i say more?

Christi Caldwell at her very best. Tim Campbell at his usual incomparable narrative excellence, Regina (Reggie) and Roderick finally get their story told, and what a story it is! One pitfall after another, one tear jerking situation after another, all while disaster looms. Yet all the while they are ptotecting the rest of the Killoran family. You have to read the story to see how it unfolds. It is awesome! I couldn't stop listening! BUY THE BOOK OR AUDIOBOOK!

Another good listen in the series. Great price, too with Kindle book.

I received this Audible on the same day it came out, and completed it the following day. Christi Caldwell did an excellent job with the storyline and the characters. I was caught up with each character's emotional state as they tried to address and solve problems that affected their family and the employees who depended upon them for protection and financial security. Although this book is one in a series, it is not necessary to listen in sequence. However, I do suggest listening in sequence in order to really appreciate and better understand the many characters that appear in each book. These characters are not a part of London's aristocracy. They live and work in London's seemier locations. The men, women and children are street smart and distrustful of "proper" society. This is a theme that flows through all the books in the series. I enjoyed this Audible because there was romance. I also appreciate the strong characters: children, as well as adult hero/heroine. I also thoroughly enjoyed the narrator's voice. Tim Campbell is one of my favorite narrators. For me, this is a 5-star book. I ask that you give it a try.

The Governess is Amazing

I loved the audio version of the book. The entire story is fascinating with twists and turns. The antihero main character finds his love after many twists and turns. Tim Campbell is my favorite narrator. He does a great job on telling the story.

The BEST in the series so far!

I've read & listened to so many of Chisti's novels and, of the ones I've read, I've enjoyed all but a few. This one was fantastic. And was that an Easter egg in Chapter 22?! Broderick is staring out of the window of the townhouse they're living in and spots a couple walking by... Anyone remember Daniel & Daphne Winterbourne? If you've read/listened to "To Redeem a Rake", you'll immediately know. That was a treat. I go through so many of Chisti's novels that I often don't have time to leave lengthy reviews but this one set itself a part. The entire series is really good but this has been my favorite. And of course, as I've said many times before, Tim Campbell & Christi Caldwell are an exceptional team.
Tim Campbell is the best narrator on the planet! What an incredible voice! And his singing! I could listen to him all day! He's just phenomenal.

Unique and well written. Satisfying read and ending.

This is a well paced, character driven story with plenty of action, well fleshed-out relationships and bad bad guys.

Unexpected

What an unexpected story. Broderick and Miss Steele, their story is so embroiled with past pain, misunderstandings and havoc you wonder how it will ever work out. Steven is definitely a little termagant.

SPOILER? I guess Gertrude’s book will be next, I hope

simply wonderful

the narration is excellent. the story superb, including much tension and romance. Somewhat sensual in places, but well done and pertinent to the plot and characters involved. Multidimensional characters that made me want to read stories about them. HEA.

Great story

Reggie is one amazingly strong sexy woman. Broderick is one stubborn strong alpha man. Could not wait to see where the story went. Great ending.

Broderick is a Thug

The heroine is only attracted to men who abuse and bully her, which is sadly a common problem with abused women.
Clara might have been a prostitute but she was still in control of her body and her life, and knew what she wanted.
Reggie speak of freedom and women's rights, but she never fights for herself
The sisters and family, she has lived with for ten years, baring one turn their back on her. All because of one spoilt, mistrusting, child and a man who can't admit he needs someone else to blame and punishment. Instead of using his so call skills of knowing everything he lashes out.
The heroine has two of theses brutes to deal with and a nasty child to endure.
Still she solves it all and forgives all.

Bravo to Tim Campbell!

I've been on a bit of a Christi Caldwell splurge over the last few weeks, some of the stories have been a little obvious and have echoes from many other historical romance stories I've listened to, but this series is a little different with the less glossy side of history and yet still strong surviving women and I'm sure there were many.

I admit I don't always enjoy Tim Campbell's pronunciation but I suppose he's aiming for "RP" which always sounds odd I suppose to the modern ear, but what drew me to comment on this particular book was his singing! Who knows if he researched actual melodies, I don't care, it was rather charming and evocative of those times and added that je ne sais quoi to an already enjoyable book.
