From a phenomenal new voice in suspense fiction comes a book that will forever change the way you look at the people closest to you...

Shadow Cove, Washington, is the kind of town everyone dreams about - quaint streets, lush forests, good neighbors. That's what Sarah thinks as she settles into life with her new husband, Dr. Johnny McDonald. But all too soon she discovers an undercurrent of deception. And one October evening when Johnny is away, sudden tragedy destroys Sarah's happiness.

Dazed and stricken with grief, she and Johnny begin to rebuild their shattered lives. As she picks up the pieces of her broken home, Sarah discovers a shocking secret that forces her to doubt everything she thought was true - about her neighbors, her friends, and even her marriage. With each stunning revelation, Sarah must ask herself, Can we ever really know the ones we love?

fun but silly

This is one of those super easy to read, whodunit. Entertaining enough for a car ride, but it certainly does not offer anything new or particularly exciting.

Okay...But not even close to Gone Girl

The Good Neighbor was a quick read. Fairly predictable, except for the stupid ending. No real exciting twists. And the prose was flat. Narration was decent, but there wasn't enough definition between characters and I got confused about who was speaking at times. The story was good enough to hold my attention, but it was nowhere near Gone Girl or The Girl On The Train. Those books were skillfully written and expertly paced. The prose, haunting and gut-wrenching and mesmerizing. The plots, mind-blowing. You believed even in their unlikeliness. But The Good Neighbor was a good try. Just don't compare it to greatness.

Meh

Narrator did voices. Ugh. I almost couldn't listen because of her. Read like a romance novel with descriptions of men.

NEVER EVER EXPECTED THAT!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Good Neighbor to be better than the print version?

I thought this was an excellent story!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sarah...she trusted her gut instinct and knew something was wrong...just not the right something, plus she was very brave!

Have you listened to any of Rebecca Roberts’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have, and I love her..she never disappoints me! I thought her performance was spot on in this book and flawless!

If you could rename The Good Neighbor, what would you call it?

I wouldn't rename it...

Any additional comments?

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

Sarah has a happy life, a dream job as a children's book writer, a beautiful home, a handsome doctor husband, lots of friends...but that all changes in a blink of an eye. Her neighbors house catches fire one night and Sarah rescues their little girl....her neighbors do not make it...and Sarah is injured...this one night triggers a series of events that unfold years worth of lies, deception and an unknown psycho stalker that nearly cost Sarah her life!

EXCELLENT STORY AND NARRATION! I LOVED IT!!!! TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT!

Probably would have gone 2.5 stars

I received a free audio version of this book for review.

The book seems very shallow in some areas yet the end result was not what I would have expected. The main character of the book needs some depth rather then just being the victimized party. It seems the author just added things to lengthen the book. For example, the neighbor's house is on fire so on the way out the door the main character grabs her purse. What's the purpose of the purse as the author never refers back to the purse. She finds a picture of the husband with the neighbor but doesn't know who the woman is. The neighborhood babysitter is stealing things. While it's wrong where is the relevance to the story line.

Probably would not recommend it and would not re-read it.

Is there a Bad Tomato award for an audiobook?

Any additional comments?

If so, I nominate this 1950's soap opera. House burned down, husband may be having an affair, wife is dumb but she is oh so pure: her best friend went to India to work with the poor, her mother did the same thing somewhere else, and she is so selfless wedding guests were ask to make a donation to charity instead of bringing a gift. Really really bad dialoge, no cliché too trite. I'd give examples but then I'd have to relisten to transcribe and I just can't do that.

Awesome Listen!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Good Neighbor to be better than the print version?

Yes the audio is so much better. You can't put it down and do not have to. You can keep listening as you still do things.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes I was on the edge of my seat to see where the plot was going to take me.

What about Rebecca Roberts’s performance did you like?

Rebecca Roberts performance was excellent, intense where she needed to be, loving in the right place, hurt in the right places. You could hear it in her voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

When Mia goes over the cliff, I on the edge of my seat.

Lies, Lies, and More Lies

Very interesting listen, well developed characters (though not the most likable), and excellent narration. The story was fast paced, many twists and turns, but I did not feel that the ending resolved enough of the issues and was too abrupt. Was Sarah just immature or was Johnny really "the man" for so many females in Shadow Cove? Relatively short, enjoyable, and clean audiobook....

Disappointing

Same plot and character elements as all the other novels by this author--wealthy families, cheating spouses, unreliable neighbors, fertility issues, lack of trust--plus an incredibly annoying narrator. All the grown women sounded like overtired, whining children.

Dreadful

I lasted ten minutes. Absolutely dreadfully narrated, trash. Cannot believe I bought this, even though it was the daily deal. Could not even bring myself to continue listening to see if it improved.

Exercise caution on your initial judgements...

Great plot twists and turns with a realistic, hopeful ending. Multi-dimensional characters. A must read

Why did I buy this!?

What would have made The Good Neighbor better?

Remove all the cliches and start again!

Would you ever listen to anything by AJ Banner again?

No.

What didn’t you like about Rebecca Roberts’s performance?

Sounding whiny and gossipy seemed to be the natural state.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Must have done; as I continued to the end. But I felt like a dreadful vulture, listening to other people's upper middle class soap-opera style calamities.

Any additional comments?

Next time, I'll read the other reviews before buying, rather than just the publisher's blurb.

A good psychological thriller!

A good thriller with twists and turns. I would like to see if there is a follow up to this story.

Painful

Simplistic story with an annoying whiny narration . Then again. Maybe that's how it was supposed to come across?..
