Story
The key to spiritual and emotional health is to grasp the truth of God's transforming love for us and then let that reality influence our own hearts and relationships. It seems simple, but we are experts at complicating simple things. Instead of living lives characterized by love we find ourselves trapped in cycles of shame, violence, and addiction that steal our joy and keep us from loving others - so much so that, by all indications, Christians are living no differently than anyone else when it comes to abuse rates, use of pornography, alcohol and drug addiction, and more.

We're all infected with a spiritual disease. Its name is shame. Whether we realize it or not, shame affects every aspect of our personal lives and vocational endeavors. It seeks to destroy our identity in Christ, replacing it with a damaged version of ourselves that results in unhealed pain and brokenness. But God is telling a different story for your life. Psychiatrist Curt Thompson unpacks the soul of shame, revealing its ubiquitous nature and neurobiological roots. He also provides the theological and practical tools necessary to dismantle shame.

A few common characteristics of adults shamed in childhood: You may suffer extreme shyness, embarrassment and feelings of being inferior to others. You don't believe you make mistakes, you believe you are a mistake. You feel controlled from the outside and from within. You feel that normal spontaneous expression is blocked. You may suffer from debilitating guilt; you apologize constantly.

The Great Controversy is the story of how the forces of good triumph over the forces of evil. The story picks up with the destruction of Jerusalem and continues down the ages to the present. It is a story of truth and how it was lost by many, but not all then gradually rediscovered by the broader Christian community through the Reformation. It climaxes with the eschaton and delineates how we in the present can navigate the final moments of earth's history.

Publisher's Summary
Brain research has found that our thoughts and beliefs affect our physical, mental and spiritual health. Mind and body are interrelated, and we are designed for healthy relationships of love and trust. When we understand God as good and loving, we flourish. Unfortunately, many of us have distorted images of God and mostly think of him in fearful, punitive ways. This leads us into unhealthy patterns of self-defeating behaviors and toxic relationships. But our lives can change when God renews our minds with a truer picture of him.
Psychiatrist Tim Jennings unveils how our brains and bodies thrive when we have a healthy understanding of who God is. He dispels common misconceptions about God and shows how different God concepts affect the brain differently. Our brains can adapt, change and rewire with redeemed thinking that frees us from unnecessary pain and suffering. Discover how science and Scripture come together to bring healing and transformation to our lives.

exceptional work and termanology
I had never heard of Dr. Jenning prior to an aquaintence mentioning his name. Having read Dr. Curt Thompson I immediately became intrigued. Dr. Jennings exceeded my expectations with a thoughtful blend of understandable brain insight that helps reveal the nature of our true God. I too was raised in a fundamental church structure that kept me laying awake at night as a young boy fearfully wondering if any unconfessed sin remained inside and if I would wake to find that I was the only one left behind if Jesus returned. Such abusive constructs of God are difficult to unravel in the mind. Dr. Jennings work is a blessing to me and the kingdom of God, as many believers rightly understand our God of Love due to this work.

Really good
I really enjoyed this book. I’m a religious neuroscientist and liked his views on God & the brain. There were a few things that I felt were cringey/ were a stretch of a connection between the brain & God. However, this was a great book overall! Teaches about Gods true nature with a spin of neuro. I recommend!

Some very unbiblical teachings.
Completely condradicts the Bible and Ellen White. The author knows it and doesn't care or at least thinks his interpretations are higher.
