When Georgie, Iris and Nola's mother died and their father disappeared into his grief, the sisters made a pact: they would always be there for one another, no matter what. Publisher's summary
Amanda King and Tess Cuffe are strangers who share the same Georgian house, but their lives couldn't be more different. Amanda seems to have it all, absolute perfection. She projects all the accoutrements of a lady who lunches. Sadly, the reality is a soulless home, an unfaithful husband and a very lonely heart. By comparison, in the basement flat, unwanted tenant Tess has spent a lifetime hiding and shutting her heart to love. It takes a bossy doctor, a handsome gardener, a pushy teenager and an abandoned cat to show these two women that sometimes letting go is the first step to moving forward and new friendships can come from the most unlikely situations.

Especially enjoyed this storyline!
Recreating oneself is never easy, and self reflection can be daunting to anyone, but this story's strong and memorable leading ladies take the challenge to heart and persevere, even when necessary changes throw their lives into turmoil. The characters are well developed and the storyline takes some surprising turns to keep the reader interested. What will happen next? Bravery comes in many forms. Faith weaves a believable and entertaining story of two very different women who, when the layers are finally peeled back due to unexpected life events, emerge as kindred spirits. Totally enjoyed The Girl I Used to Know. Great easy read!

Lovely, well written book
I really enjoyed this. I listened to it at every opportunity. It’s a simple, ‘feel good’ tale, but one that is very well written, with engaging, richly drawn characters. The lovely story is enhanced by the, as always, faultless and warm narration by Aoife McMahon.

The story revolves around the lives of two very different women a generation apart in age and from very different backgrounds, but whose lives are brought together by differing but tragic circumstances.

I was hooked on this book from the very start. Tess and Amanda's stories remind you that you don't necessarily get what you want at the start, but also what goes around comes around. I enjoyed the added depth created by the throwbacks and absolutely love the ending.

An enjoyable read
This genre is not something that I would normally read, I prefer suspense or thriller style books, but given the overall high ratings I thought that I would give it a go. I was not disappointed.
It took me a bit to get into the book, but I put that down to me not being use to the type of book. Once I really got into it I couldn't stop listening. Loved it!

Story
When Georgie, Iris and Nola's mother died and their father disappeared into his grief, the sisters made a pact: they would always be there for one another, no matter what. Now, decades later, they haven't spoken for years and can barely stand to be in the same room. As his health declines, their father comes up with a plan. In his will, he states that before they can claim their inheritance, they must spend six months living together in their childhood home in the village of Ballycove, Ireland, and try to repair their broken relationships.
