Mediocre

Book was okay. Really no new insight for more seasoned homeschoolers but maybe new homeschool families could glean more. If you’re looking for a practical book on how to shorten your homeschool day, this book is not for you as the title really suggests. I will say that it does have some great reminders of why you or I choose to homeschool and it’s importance.

Not suited for secular homeschoolers

While I found the tidbits of advice agreeable. I found myself struggling to continue listening by half way through. It felt like it was 1/3 solid advice and 2/3 religious view point. As a secular homeschooler, I have no interest in the religious aspects of the book and with limited time I finally chose to stop listening and move on to a different book. I read the description before purchasing and there was no mention of religion, so I was very disappointed to have it be the majority of the content. I wish books with such a strong religious focus would be up front about their content so as not to waste the time of those of us not interested in a bible lesson.

Fresh , Grounding Encouragement for this Generation of Homeschooling Mothers

This book was more than I expected it to be! I assumed it would be a practical “how to guide” to streamline our school days at home. But it was so much more.
With the thousands of voices, advice and resources available to us young mothers in this generation sometimes I feel like I could cry. Am I doing enough? Am I doing too much? How can I do it all?
Comparison hurries us to the next curriculum and lesson.
Durenda’s motherhood experience, perspective and wisdom are what I’ve been longing for. Her natural and unhurried approach to teaching her children are simple, yet revolutionary in today’s culture .
I’m a homeschooling mother of 6 children middle school and younger. I’m so thankful for this book. It gives me permission to teach as my mommy heart has wanted to. Trusting God all the way. I only wish I had read this 10 years ago.
I plan to read it again and this time take notes!
Thank you Durenda.

P.s you should read this book if you haven’t ;)

Peaceful homeschool

One of the things I love about this books is the gentle reminder that peace is a fruit of the spirit. She talks about unhurried homeschooling, but it looks so much like a fruit of the spirit that has blossomed in her school life. Such a great book, and very inspiring to have peace through our school day.

Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall of another homeschool mom? Here’s your chance.

I’m a 12 year homeschool veteran, and with 7 kids, I have another dozen years ahead. It seemed like a good time to reevaluate my purpose - and my methods. This book was a great tool to help me refocus on why we chose to homeschool in the first place - and if I was doing it as efficiently as possible (with 7 kids, time management is always a priority!)

Dorinda takes an unapologetically Christian standpoint on homeschooling. I appreciate this; it’s my view as well. Our homeschooling end goal is raising wise young men and women to seek and serve God with their whole life. But what does that look like in real life? Dorinda takes us along on a hindsight journey of her homeschooling years. This is what I so often longed for in our beginning season!
Practical tips, encouragement to be students of our individual kids, and a reminder that we are capable to teach our children what they need - it’s here.
